The top entrance was considered too unstable when I used to do it so never done the through trip - we used to go in the bottom entrance, then up to the Lu Blue Sump, and then back out the same way which made a nice trip. I don't remember it being that tight, just lots of flat out - but it's funny how these things fade from memory!

Are there still some bits of wood at the bottom of the pitch? I took them in about 10 years ago when I was digging in the base of the chamber. I packed it in when the end became fairly unstable and we had two minutes of rumbling and crashing (enough time to climb half way back up the pitch and confirm that the tight passage above the dig was the source of the falling rocks). I did block off the loose end with a few pieces of wood for safety. J ohn B eck had some of the wood for a project about 5 years ago, but I don't know how many are left. I really must take them out again 
I hadn't realised it was so long ago that I had been in, what used to be, one of my favourite caves.
Also how's the bottom entrance? It must be about 10 years ago that a few of us rebuilt it (under the auspices of the Adopt-a-cave scheme)

Didnt see any wood beneath the first pitch but wasnt really looking as i was on disco light mode at the time! Some interesting shoring further in from the top entrance tho!
The bottom entrance looks fine, the oil barrels look like they might be starting to go a bit but fine for a few more years at least, good little engineering job to be honest.
Lu blue sump is very pretty, nice clear blue water, at least compared to most of the foul muddy sumps ive seen! Dont think im quite converted to diving yet tho!

Yer, there is still some wood in the first chamber back under the top entrance crawl. All going a bit nasty now. Doesn't look like much of it is doing anything useful either.Dave H said:

We (SUSS) have started up the dig at west choke. Been three or four times now. Managed to move loads of spoil, find a 9th high blind aven, have it colapse back in on us, and progress nowhere! Now liquid mud just keeps pouring in. Bugger!
Infact, if anybody wants seemingly endless supplies of what can best be described as baby's poo after a long and intensive diet of laxatives and gravel, then help yourself!

The wood - I don't want it for anything. I just thought that I ought to tidy-up - belatedly.
And yes the streamway was found from the top entrance - the bottom entrance being a later addition. I'm sure there is a good description in one of the usual guidebooks.

But it does look like a most promising dig, isnt it the most westerly point of the stoney mid caves and drafting. No Draenen but worth a bit of a dig!

At the moment we're down there every monday or tuesday. The digging is good fun and easy, stacking is a different ball game though! Probably going to move onto sandbag packing, or something similar.

Hmm - got too many projects of my own on the go at the mo. (although most things in bagshawe are, and will remain, underwater for a while now.
Do hope your stacking with consideration and not turning existing nice passage into glutonous hell. 8)

There are a few of us with history in the cave would love to help, but if I'm remembering the correct place, it was a little tight, even in my slimmer days!

Hmmm, yes i'm guessing you are correct, it's not huge! It's a body sized phreatic tube off to the right as you hit the main west choke.
Stacking is only a problem because we're not pulling out any rocks to build a stone wall with at the moment, so all we have is slop! We've already had to improvise temperaraly with wooden shuttering. As soon as we get more rocks out we'll replace this with good old stone walling.
At the moment we've got enough men to operate, only needs 3 people, but thanks anyway. Will keep ya posted.
