The Olympics will cost the govermnent (us) loads, although some people will be lucky enough to be able to capitalise from it. Not us though unless they are holding the bog snorkelling championships this way.

They need those as well - for all the athletes who are overcome by the smog.

China to grab 60% of World airliner construction
The Chinese are now so rich they want to start driving & flying everywhere.
Mind you as long as we don't build a single coal fired power station,
stop using plastic bags
and turn our heating off,
things should be alright  ;)

Its all right for you lot to go round knocking china, but what about us poor sods who depend on our investments in the Chines economic miracle to fund our life style.

If China doesn't build all these power stations and continue getting rich, I may have to get a job.

So, it appears that the lack of pollution attendant upon the Economic Miracle of China is definitely worth it. Thanks, Bearded Boy, for finally answering Whitelackington's question. This thread can now be closed, I reckon.

We've got plenty tho,

I'm sure the people in these areas would welcome a drought, even if it did involve a hose-pipe ban!

They don't have to go there if they are concerned, they have freedom of choice.  :coffee:

The same applies over concerns with human rights issues, they can boycott the games if they are concerned.  :-\

Last week,
it was said that our olympics will cost us yet another billion pounds,
seems to be going up every month,
it will earn nothing as a whole.

Cost of London Olympics could hit ?10bn

The bill for the 2012 Olympics in London is set to soar past the ?8 billion mark after the Government confessed to extra costs yesterday.

Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, admitted that the cost of building the Olympic Park alone had risen by ?900 million to ?3.3 billion.

To the astonishment of MPs, Miss Jowell said that included an extra ?400 million for advisers CLM, whose job it is to keep costs down.

Runners concerned about China's pollution during the Olympics
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/athletics/7197871.stm

A runner; not runners.

You didn't read it, also Mrs. Radcliffe
as well as the Etheopian geezer

Er, yes I did.

Mr. Gebrselassie said he may withdraw from competing in the marathon event over his concerns regarding pollution whereas Mrs. Radcliffe is quoted as commenting, "no point .... being ... concerned", and that "it hopefully won't be an issue" if they "adapt her doses or medication".

So, there's ONE person concerned about it enough to alter their competition entry with ONE other who is dealing with issues which may arise from it.
