The population of China is now 1&1/3 billion
just 7% of their land mass feeds 20% of our Worlds population,

27% or 2.5 million square Kilometers of China is now desert,

every year an extra 2,500 square k turns to desert.
The desertification and poisoning of agricultural land is happening at an alarming rate.
Every year more of their precious agricultural land is converted in building sites,
Very soon they will not be able to feed themselves,
so will have to buy in food from abroad
World food prices are rocketing,
World energy prices are rocketing,
World population numbers are rocketing,
World mineral prices are rocketing.

Is it time for them to stop "growing"  :-\

Well interrupted, Downer; perhaps Whitelackington would care to get his local MP to commit political suicide by pushing forward legislation enforcing a maximum of one child per family in the UK. After all, we can't complain about other people if we don't put our own house in order first, surely?

So The Chinese government,
still expect their population to rise by 300 million to 1.6billion!
I'd still call that population growth.
(That's equivalent to adding the population of The U.S.A. )

China is now the Worlds number one polluter.

BUT the point here was that it is VERY unsustainable, they will not be able to feed themselves
Only a small proportion of their land area is suitable for agriculture,
it is getting less each year
but the population is expected to grow by 300 million  :-\

Then they will have lots of starvation, many will die. Self regulating population. Problem solved.

FFS stow it, Whitelackington. The Chinese will deal with their own problems themselves. Banging on about "300 million more Chinese" is a tad hypocritical coming from people who breed like rabbits themselves.

No they won't sort it.
If their available agricultural land keeps diminishing
yet their population continues to rise,
as they are now very wealthy and powerful
they have an other option,
buy food from abroad.
Solved!

But not quite,
that's what we do and others do the same.
It can't go on though, can it?

We won't be continuing to purchase stuff from abroad to keep ourselves going since there are many people who think we should cut all ties with the continent and have nothing to do with foreigners. Once these people become our Government all our problems will be solved. We can but hope and pray and keep our fingers crossed that such a day happens sooner rather than later.

did anyone see the news yesterday on the new Olympic site (the birds nest) stadium. a visit from VIPs were shown round it an one lady commented its a stunning venue but the air quality may be a concern, especially for the endurance events. all around her you could only see 100 yards a real pea soup how the hell can the worlds elite compete in that

Blooming whinging athletes. They moaned about the lack of air at 7500ft in 1968, now they're moaning about bad air. Worse than cavers.

Wimps.

Besides which, you are forgetting - it's China. If the government want to ban pollution for the duration of the Olympics, they will simply do it.

Likely the levels of pollution will be consistent for each event, so it'll still be representative.

Sod the olympics.

Confusius, he say:

There was once a village, where several families lived, each with their own allocation of land, on which they grew their own food and kept a pig. After a few years, one family (The YUKs) found that if they had another pig, and intensified the food production on their plot of land, they got more food than they needed for themselves, and could sell the surplus to the other families. Another family (The YUSSES), seeing how the first family were doing so well, decided to do the same. Both families prospered, and bred more and more pigs. However, because they were now rearing more pigs, and creating more manure than the land could take, they decided to dump all the surplus in a swampy useless part of the village. A few years later, a third family (let's call them the CHINS) also decided to join the wealthy band of prosperous producers. Unfortunately, by this time the shit heap was overflowing with crap, and all the extra being dumped by the Chins just flowed out over the whole village, threatening the whole existence of the village as a sustainable entity. The YUKS and the YUSSES blamed the CHINS for the mess, but who was it who filled up the shitheap in the first place?
