Rods Pot to Bath Swallet Through Trip

Not the biggest tuesday night caving trip, met up with Les at the Wessex Hut. We guessed Keen wouldn't be along as he'd posted on DP at quarter to seven, and Known probably had a headache or something. Ah well, we'd just have to go on our own then. time to toss a coin - Swildons or something else. So we ended up jumping into Les's car and doing a bit of off roading to Rods Pot. Les said we should be out at 9.30 or Roger would complain. Changed into caving gear, and down the hole we went - some fairly tight bits, and then we were in a largeish chamber at the bottom of Rods Pot. After a bit of direction finding, the way on down Purple Pot was found - Les rigged a handline, it was great fun going down, like a big slide but muddier and more likely to end up with a broken something if you let go the rope. More crawly squeezy bits, avoiding the deep holes in the floor, and then we got through into Bath Swallet, and a big climb up. It's easily the biggest climb I've done yet, I found it a bit of a challenge, best not to look down when at the top. Les rigged a ladder to give some extra handholds, on the 3rd try it went down properly! Don't know how he managed it, hanging head first down the pitch - his wellies must have been a tight fit, that's all. At least he remembered them. Up through the last bit, and arrived back at the car at exactly 9.30 to change and go to the pub, where some interest was generated by an officer of the law shining his torch round the car park - turns out he was lost, which really boosts the confidence in them. All in all a good nights caving.

i mentain this through trip dosnt actually exist and purple pot is no more than a practical joke some cavers, notably members of exeter university speliological socioty, play on other cavers.

Hi Oli

It sure does exist - thanks to lots of effort by Mr Sparrow and his digging crew. Your'e probably going too far into Rod's and missing the turnoff on your R to Bath swallet. If you get to the big stal at the bottom of the scrambly bit you have gone too far. Look up and right and furtle about in the muddiest bit. You'll find it.
