Managed to get to Sunset Hole with no problems today. Conditions in Ingleton are much easier than reported a couple of days ago.

Been a masive thaw overnight and been warmish all day.
Side roads should be just all slush but there may be compacted snow (ice) down the center.
Would suspect anything wet underground will be F***ING freezing!

Just been up and done Calf Holes / Brow Gill... took a victim for first abseil :)  Didn't attempt to drive up the track past the farm - but the friendly people at the farm said we could park there  (y)

Underground for around noon 27/12/09  Water was nice and low - nothing on the hill had melted substantially with any effect by that point...  Roads were all fine...

The gates are back open! Enjoy!

Swaledale - most of back roads still covered in compacted snow, we just managed to get up to end of road at Crackpot.

Any updates on the snow this weekend? Which areas are accessible/out of bounds now...?

I would have thought all but the steepest roads would be ok by now. Stainforth and Horton are more or less clear - still some ice on the side roads, but mainly driveable, you just need to keep an eye out for patches of ice here and there.

I agree with Rachel.

Make sure your car battery's in good fettle as it's like Moscow outside and allegedly getting even colder midweek.

Getting down from Bull pot farm yesterday was interesting. Snow chains were a must on 2 wheel drives. Some of the road had clear non icy patches though.

We have a club trip this coming weekend to Bull Pot Of The Witches, is Bull Pot Farm accessible to only cars with snow chains or 4WD ?

I guess by the forecast for this week, conditions are likely to remain as they are now !

This was the case as of yesterday (Sunday).  Impossible to say if you'll get up at the weekend as the road condition seems to change almost daily.  The steepest section (after the hairpins and up to the right-angle left hand bend) faces southeast though, and seems to clear relatively quickly.  Many people have been parking in Barbondale and walking up from there (only half an hour).

Ian.

p.s. just spotted the forecast; wouldn't plan on getting there in a car...

If its anything like the lane that goes to hammer pot etc then getting there is not the problem its the 2ft of snow and ice at the side of the road that is the problem, so no parking. We had to abort a trip to a pot around there recently due to that fact. My advice is to bring a shovel and possibly a pick axe if the ice is really thick. At least you will be warmed up ready to cave after clearing all that ice.

Well it's probably full again as, over Monday night (4th January) into Tuesday morning (5th), it's put down another dollop of snow. The A65 past Clapham is moving (but seems to have less traffic than one would normally expect at 07-30 on a working day). This is turning into a good winter for blowhole spotting if nothing else.
