NW Leeds (airport area) - Four inches overnight and still snowing. A65 is clear but has wide band of snow down the centre. All other roads have snow, though are passable because it's not that cold at the moment. The local school is closed, and the airport has the snowblowers going, but very little evidence of flights.

Yay!

Sheffield is absolutely covered in the stuff at the minute  :D

Bring it on......

Four / five foot drifts out in the Peak above Winnats!

Roll on the weekend....

Our house is at the top of Stainforth, on the road that goes past Neals Ing, right at the point where the road goes from gently sloping to rather steep. We've had great entertainment today - every time a car goes past the front window and up the hill, we run through to the back door to watch it slide back down again

Wednesday morning update (6th); a bit more snow overnight and the odd snow shower this morning. Mind you, as I type I'm looking out of the window at what resembles a blizzard (although this isn't representative of the general weather this morning).

It's just occurred to me that I haven't actually driven anywhere yet this year; I'm lucky in that I can walk to work in about 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the route taken. Looking at the frozen lump of snow outside which has a car somewhere underneath it, it's probably quicker to walk to work than to thaw the motor out. I had planned a couple of days caving in the Peak District this week but having seen the thread in the Derbyshire pages the thought of driving to Castleton isn't very appealing. In fact I might rise to the challenge and see how long it is before I do drive anywhere this year!

We have just had a lovely day in Ingleton.  Planned to do some caving in Kingsdale - but were warned on arrival at Inglesport that it was impassible. We left the car in Ingleton - at 10am it was a challenge just getting the car up the main street!!

We wandered up the hill and popped into what we thought was a tiny walk-in cave called Storr's cave. We were pleasantly surprised to find a really good little system, a complete mud-bath, it was like crawling around in chocolate mousse!!  There are many little tunnels leading off to chokes, and there is evidence of digging... although not as much as i was expecting with it so close to the road!!

The local kids were bewildered to see two mud-monsters wandering around in the snow...  but we had sledges with us - so joined them on the death-slide they had made :)

By the time we got back to the car - the roads were clear as the sky...

Many more snowed in days like this please!

The evidence of digging, is what me and Daz are up to at the moment, if you are talking about the dig deep down in the cave.

Its also not the first time children around there have seen mud monsters that for sure.

What is the current status of the road to Leck Fell, is the farmer likely to clear it or is it going to be walking up the road only for caving trips?

Well it's probably full again as, over Monday night (4th January) into Tuesday morning (5th), it's put down another dollop of snow. The A65 past Clapham is moving (but seems to have less traffic than one would normally expect at 07-30 on a working day). This is turning into a good winter for blowhole spotting if nothing else.
Dear John
2nd January was a great day for blowhole spotting.
Gordon found one in the next shakehole to the Blea Dubs dig but sadly 50 ft plus higher than we are.
Still, I suppose that I could add it to my list of 37+ dig sites covered by 2 small fields in Yorkshire.
Regards
Robert

I walked into Kingsdale on Friday (8th) along the road from Ingleton and saw only one vehicle (a 4x4) in the 2 hours I was there. A 2 WD might get up the Hill but I couldn't guarantee you'd stop that easily if you meet anything else.

Sunday 10th; for the first time in ages the snow underfoot at valley level was starting to feel slightly mushy. (Slightly.)

We have a club trip this coming weekend to Bull Pot Of The Witches, is Bull Pot Farm accessible to only cars with snow chains or 4WD ?
MPC-Robin, did you run the Bull Pot trip this weekend?  Would appreciate info on the lane...

Perhaps someone else has been up there?

Ian.

Haven't been up there my self, but I was told at the weekend that it was still only accessible by 4x4 or with snow chains. Where I live (about 12 miles due west) it has been thawing since Sunday morning and continues to thaw today, however the extra 300m elevation at BPF may mean little has changed.
