Thursday snow.

Monday evening 11th; a slow but steady thaw today at valley level is allowing increasingly large patches of green to emerge from the snow. However at higher level it's not thawing yet. People were walking off Ingleborough today becramponed and wielding ice axes and saying they were glad they'd had them.

Rivers have not risen at all yet.

Further to Pitlamp's post on Monday:

Anyone been up Ingleborough, Penygent or Whernside recently?  Would like to know what conditions are like as I'm hoping to walk one (or two?) on Sunday.

Ian.

Still a lot of snow about Ian - but given the interesting weather forecast for the next 48 hours it's hard to say what it'd be like by when you're planning your walk. PM me on Saturday evening and I'll try and update you directly.

Thanks Pitlamp but I should be at Bull Pot Farm* by then.  Also I get internet access at work only.  Will just have to see how it goes  :D

Ian.

*provided we can get up there

Does anyone have an update as to the accessibility of BPF at the moment? We're supposed to be staying there this weekend but I have no idea how bad the lane is and if we'll actually be able to get up there...

CatM, you should be absolutely fine getting to BPF.  Plenty of rain and warmer weather at the weekend cleared most of the snow.  There was one bad bit about 50 yeards in length (after Gale Garth Farm) which was made passable on Saturday afternoon by 6-8 people with spades, shovels and baking trays.  On Sunday it was back to two lines of black tarmac almost everywhere.

Fantastic, thanks! I know most of it has gone at ground level, but wasn't sure how much would be left up there. Here's to a great weekend of caving then!

Is it hailing then? :tease: In nearby Clitheroe all we have is a light dusting and it seems to be turning to rain.

Next morning (Thursday 4th) ; most of snow has thawed at valley level - some remains on the hill (as far as can be seen in the mist anyway). No real problems on roads at valley level. Something and nothing compared with the snow earlier this month.

In Leeds this morning we woke to an inch of snow and thick fog - couldn't see the end of the garden. Very strange, to have both snow and fog at the same time. Can't recall seeing it before.

Everything melting fast now.

Wednesday night's snow has more or less gone now (although there were still a few slippy bits on the high road from Stainforth to Arncliffe this afternoon).
