Tool for remote + IR reconnaissance

Quite a few cavers have already begun using quadrotors usefully - filming is an application which presents itself as an obvious avenue (Gavin Newman's new Mulu film is a case in point) and Spanish cavers have been using remote flight with IR sensing to locate blow holes during wintertime in the high mountains, operated from 4x4 vehicles on backroads. QRs will surely have a lot of future inclusion in overseas trips, from recce'ing to lighting avens/filming for prospects etc..

endurance - 60 minutes (90 minutes with extended endurance kit)

 do they mean "90 minutes with a bigger battery!"

Flight time is surely a product of motor power and battery technology - both of which are improving all the time - there are bigger quadrotors that presumably can carry more kit.

Seems the quadrotors have a much greater degree of flight stability which I think is one of the all important factors.
