Treak Cliff, 60 years ago

Anyone who is familiar with Treak Cliff Cavern, or who knew Peter Harrison, may find this short film of interest:

Interesting little film. The bit with the magnesium flare reminded me of a photographic trip into High Gill Cave near Dent in the late 1950's to take a picture of the waterfall. I used some magnesium ribbons without realising the amount of smoke they created. I tried to beat the smoke to the entrance but failed and had to grope & cough. Had I waited 5 minutes it would all have gone out with the draught. You live & learn!

Thanks for that .........love the Bob Danvers-Walker style narration. Peter Herrison. Traffic on the "old" road too. Iirc I went down with my dad on Good Friday 1959. It was p*ssing down and we walked over from Edale station as he didn't drive.

For younger readers B D-W was the commetator on many Pathe films and the person Harry Enfield lampooned in his "Mr. Cholmondely-Warner" skits.

Interesting to see the reel of what looks to be electrical cable outside the top entrance/exit, obviously just in the process of bringing new fangled electricity......

Vicky must have been just a babe in arms.....
