Yes. That's the one. It is Moelwyn (Zinc) Mine/ Pwll Mango. Odd that it doesn't have lead, but maybe even the zinc moniker was to raise its profile from being a lowly managnese mine in the eyes of investors?

I think maybe it was the other way round, it did not have manganese. I'll dig out my old records after dinner (or maybe tomorrow morning) and blend these with stuff I have learned today.

There will also be a bit of a delay while I try and find a new wezzit which is not completely impossible.

I did have a quick look at the dumps with the weather wrilrling up the valley and it's quite 'quartzy'. I need to get back and have a proper explore of the levels in the next few weeks.

1) Can someone else post a new wezzit - I looked at the two photos I was considering and realised no-one could ever work them out, one is known only to me and two farmers!

2) I think Moelwyn Mine was originally intended to be a manganese mine but had too little manganese to be worth mining. However it did have zinc and lead, and a hint of copper. I am putting together a document summarising my views, incorporating some details from the 1970-2 exploration programme. I can e-mail copies of this to anyone interested, but I am dealing with several serious family illnesses at the moment and probably will not have time to work on it until Thursday.

3) Last night I came across this on You Tube - it clearly shows the presence of some manganese at Moelwyn Mine!

Regarding the Gwaith Mango/Moelwyn Mine document, I made good progress on this yesterday but it is more interesting and complex than I anticipated, so the document has become longer than planned. I have included a full transcription of the Smith and Dewey 1922 description as this does not seem to be available on-line, plus the historical account of Noranda's 1970s prospecting in the Moelwyns as there are only a couple of us still alive who were involved. The document is about 2MB already. I'll only have a couple of hours this evening to work on it, and no time at all Saturday, so I'll finish it on Sunday. If you want a copy, PM me an e-mail address. Dave Linton will get a copy as there are some additions to his excellent Merioneth Manganese site.

There will be plenty for Robin to look for when he visits the site again, I hope he takes a camera.
