What caving related thing did you do today?

Be happy to, but don't hold your breath. I think it's a weather related problem, every time I look out the window and it isn't sunny I tend to assume it'll dry quicker in the car.

Never works very well though.

went looking for a new cave entrance, I know its there on the opposite side of the dale somewhere but I can't see it through the trees even if i climb down the dale side. On google earth I can see the limestone cliffs where it should be and am in the correct place on an OS map.
I may have to take a machete with me next time.

(I know its there because I have seen the cold air rising when it gets cold,.)

Checked out performance of new caving knife bought from Starless River after old knife failed to sever piece of tape on recent trip.

Tied old rope to beam in garage, held taut in left hand, sliced away with old knife (which I thought was sharp) with right hand; after 8 attempts (more or less in same place on rope) gave up, as knife had hardly touched rope. Tried with new (serrated-edge knife) . . . clean  through in one stroke. (Must try again on 10 mm rope, as this was done on 9 mm.)

Glued 6 round patches of black pond liner onto my Meander oversuit.

Looking forward to being known as "The Leopard"  :)

Just though I'd say it's OK to say "Went caving" in here. The title might be "caving related" but that includes caving trips, digging, etc. and the whole thread was in part a response to the miserable gits who turn up on here from time to time and complain there isn't enough actual sport caving being discussed.

What I would really like to see is " Took a few photos in the cave. Here they are ".

Perhaps many of our members are armchair cavers after all.

Yes. I should have said photos of lady cavers. An excellent shot. Thanks.

Today I am charging my Scurion for an anticipated six person attack on the digs in Reservoir Hole next Tuesday.

Spent most of yesterday driving back from Elphin in Assynt to the Peak District after a week of excellent caving and a bit of hill walking.

Gave a presentation, followed by Q&A, about caving to my 8 year old daughter's school class. Mainly concentrated on the clothing and equipment we use, as they are doing a project about sports clothing/equipment design. Took in a load of gear for them to check out. I was the only parent to volunteer.

They seemed to enjoy it and asked a load of interesting questions.

Apparently the next class up is doing a project about sporting champions and they asked if I would go back again to talk about caving!
I told them caving was noncompetitive (mostly!) but they seem to have a very wide definition of what is a champion (you don't have to be really good at something to be a champion!) and suggested I could talk about pioneer cavers who didn't have the gear we have today or people who have achieved something (discovered something?). Also about record caves - longest, deepest, biggest etc.
