What else do you do apart from caving?

Re: 'canyoning'; called canyoneering here; like caving it's great fun if done properly.

Congratulations, Laura, on your ability to create a sentence combining the words "exciting" and "reading" and "Japanese woodblock printing". Not having any previous experience of JWP I am ill versed and unable to guess what, precisely, is exciting about it. Perhaps you'd care to enlighten me.

Ah yes my sarcasm doesn't come across so well in electronic form... I meant that some of my other hobbies weren't so exciting. Woodblock printing is pretty relaxing and so I suppose it's not exciting. It's a very nice technique for making prints and pictures though it does take lots of time to do it.

There are many horror stories from canyoning trips, the most recent being a friend who broke his ankle when he jumped into a pool that wasn't deep enough. Best to let the first person down check the depth by abseiling into the pool. We also found that getting lost on the hills after the canyon to be a problem. As well we got caught out once when we left it late in the day to do a canyon. We were out after dark in wetsuits, freezing cold with not enough lights. Abseiling down waterfalls in the dark is not something I want to do again :) As well I would say never go canyoning with a stop or simple, it's too hard to get them off the rope when you're swimming around under a waterfall. I always use a fig 8 which is grand cos you just swim backwards and it feeds itself through. Dropping the damn thing into a pool or down the pitch becomes a danger though...

I like to explode things, bomb making, bright lights, things that go whoooosh BANG!

That's you on several government and special branch lists then, look out for dark cars and unexpected clicks on the phone line.

Tip... clip big end to crab and harness. Push rope through big hole and over little hole. Unclip big end from crab. Fig 8 attached to rope (can't drop it). Clip little hole to crab. Screw up and go! To take off, reverse. Never lose it again.

You have no idea the number blacked out cars and black helicopters have been following me over the years. One of my first trips to Monkton Farlegh included the police in cars and the police helicopter buzzing over head. Yes I know me and DP are monitored, I have direct evidence of that.

Anyway back to topic - I enjoy films and music having recently brought a Archos 504 80mb media player which not only gives me large portable storage gives me movies and music and my pictures anywhere. Its a nice peace of kit.

Is that why you muck with your grammar and spelling when posting, to put their surveillance bots off the track?

Yes, requires more processing time and human intervention to decipher the language. I also have my own tin foil lined helmet. Various full face respirators and BA kit in case smoke is thrown in. I also have a deactivated 1940s mouser  (legal have deactivation paperwork as well).

er I guess this is an insight into my non caving activities
Note, sometimes when you hear dogs barking its deer, sometimes when you hear deer barking its dogs  :doubt:

I do a bit of moto-cross.  Put on a spot of weight over Xmas which slows me down on the hills.  Usually prefer to ride up to the entrance of OFD. Got stuck going over to Pant Mawr.  LOL

Biking? It was the biggest activity in the Bradford PC for a long time; now overtaken again by digging and 'proper' caving. I have to confess it's my second biggest time consumer (after cave related stuff like digging and diving).
If caving didn't exist? Not sure biking would fill the gap, so might do some 'real' diving (in the sea etc). I've also become interested in this Urban Exploration thing; exploring old buildings, tunnels etc. Looks interesting, bit iffy on the legal side, but the folks who do it seem pretty good types who don't damage anything, take nice photos etc. Anyone for an old asylum or nuclear bomb shelter? At least you don't get rained off.
