It's a narrow constriction just downstream of the third pitch in Manor Farm Swallet, which can become impassable in flood conditions.

See page four of this document for the survey/location:

It's a minor constriction in the streamway of Manor Farm Swallet, a squeeze through calcited boulders, that was first passed by a bloke called Albert Francis

Going even more off topic, has anybody ever actually seen it impassably wet. I've been down MFS when there has been water in the entrance shaft and Albert's Eye was still easily passable.

Never seen it impassable but I'm pretty sure if you hung around in it in high water that you had better learn to breath water.

To echo what Graham said I got caught in a fairly nasty flood pulse down Manor Farm back in the 1990s. Albert's eye remained passable (albeit with the water around my nose). Returning to curtain chamber the usual stream route behind the curtain was underwater and the stream was flowing over the pitch having entered the cave at the foot of September Rift. I'm guessing a lot of the water flows under the calcite.

I think you should post a picture from a spot in GB or Swildon's so I'd have a chance at getting it

The crawl between the canyon and giants stairway in Cuckoo Cleeves?

(I have my doubts as i think cuckoo is bigger and their is nowhere to put the camera to get that shot.)

Not sure which is the giants staircase in Cuckoo Cleeves, and I assume the Canyon is the beginning big bit. But that's good enough for me - it is Cuckoo Cleeves at the bottom of the stream bit where it starts following strike and getting small.

So your turn nthingn

Wow! don't believe that! I was ni-on convinced I was wrong!

Got the names from the mendip underground. I'm interested as to whether i have got the right bit or just lucked out:

Have to confess I have no idea what "strike" means.  The bit I referred to as the canyon is a big gorge shaped bit you pop in to from the left (looking down the gorge towards the bottom) at the end there are two dips one is full of sand bags (old dig?) the one on the left has a small crawl on your side (i think the photo is the entrance of this crawl). On the other-side is a big slope to the right. the top of this leads to puke rift(?) and then to the legendary "lake" passage. left (as you face the slope take you to a small pot 2-3mø with a small stream at the base, right leads to a contorted squeeze out in to the bottom of the canyon. Am I correct?

Do i get to post even if i got it just by luck?

Will need to russel up some photos (may need to borrow a friends) but will post hear by 0900h GMT tomorrow (02/12/10).

(Its meant to be eta-beta-pi (as in eat a bit-of/better pie) but the forum doesn't render greek too well.)
