2016 Euro Speleo Tickets
« on: August 13, 2015, 03:04:16 pm »
Euro Speleo 2016 Tickets will be on sale very shortly (i.e probably within the next 24 hours) at: http://eurospeleo.uk/tickets/

For tickets purchased before 28 September, there is a special offer:

Weekly Ticket: £120 *** Special Offer - £60 - until 28 Sept ***
Concessions (Under 25s and Spouses): £80 *** Special Offer - £50 - until 28 Sept ***
Under 15s: £15
Under 6s: free
Camping / Overnight: £10 per person *** Special Offer - free until 28 Sept ***

As well as the first 100 tickets to be sold will be put in a draw to win their ticket for free.

So, buying a full-price ticket now means a saving of £70 (£60 on cheaper entry ticket and £10 on camping) plus a chance to get the whole lot back via the draw. !!!BARGAIN!!!

For anyone who is unsure what this is, it will be THE caving event of 2016, replacing Hidden Earth and attracting cavers from around the world. It will take place from 13-20 August with your ticket allowing you on-site at any time during the week.  A small selection of what is available is:
  • The major Dales caves pre-rigged with access for all delegates
  • All-day bar and evening entertainment ... all wee
  • Day-time lectures, Trade Hall and Competitions
  • Subsidised Gaping Gill Winch Descents
  • The fabulous Salle 3D Team showing all week
  • Pre-and Post-Conference Trips

Basically it'll be Hidden Earth on steroids!

I suspect most cavers would prefer beer.

Are there any details yet of what the spouses get for their £50/£80?
Old ... but not old enough to know any better

Exactly the same as a full-price ticket, just at a somewhat reduced rate.

Yes, a bit strange!  There was a misunderstanding over who was supposed to be handling the Hidden Earth booking form this year. It was only relatively recently that I found out that it was me. Hidden Earth bookings will open sometime this week I hope, and definitely by next Monday. Announcements will be made on the ukcaving.com and Hidden Earth forums, and on the BCRA Notices List when the booking form is available.
BCRA Secretary from 1/1/2010.

Early bird tickets are for the whole week only. Will there be daily tickets available later on? If so, what would their price be?

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I certainly can't commit to a week this far in advance!

Yep, ticket sales are now live with apologies for it taking slightly longer than I thought.

Remember one of the first 100 tickets purchased will be free (via prize draw) and any (non-child) tickets purchased before 28 Sept will attract a substantial discount.

There will be day tickets available but the week-long ticket will represent a substantial saving and, combined with free camping at the moment too, I'd recommend snapping up the week-long ticket (especially if you live near enough to be able to pop over for the mid-week lectures and entertainment that interest you ... there really will be a lot on e.g. a different Salle 3D film every evening, a differently themed evening party each night.)

How many day tickets would you have to purchase before you'd spent more than the early bird week ticket?

For some of us £110 (for a couple) is quite a commitment, and it'd be really annoying to find that we only wanted to go for, say, 2 days, and that that would have been cheaper than paying in advance.

A query re: the concession tickets...

My initial assumption was that for two partners at the same address, one would pay standard, the second would pay concession. However, when I went to buy our tickets I found the form to be a bit ambiguous:

* Standard: Select this unless you meet one of the other criteria.
* Concession: Under 25s (If you will be 24 years old or younger on 13th August 2016) OR Spouses at the same address (ie. a partner, living at the same address).

(my emphasis)

Technically, we both meet that "other criteria", and spouses is given in plural (though it does say "a" partner); also no mention of "at the same address as a standard ticket holder" or similar - does that mean we're both eligible for a concession ticket?

I don't want to tick the concession box for both, only to get stung for a full price standard ticket at a later date; likewise, it would be a bit of a bummer to get a standard only to later find out I could have got it cheaper (I'm from Yorkshire, what can I say).

Can anyone offer some clarification? :)

Disclaimer: I haven't actually gone through the process of trying to put both as concession to see what happens and if it tells me off or not, because of the slightly bizarre format of entering payment details before the second person details, so apologies if I could have answered my own question. It might also be useful for others to know the answer though...

@CatM: I implemented the bookings system... Text is now clarified so it should be clearer. Hope that is OK?
You should book one full ticket and, if eligible, one concession ticket.

Can the Banquet be booked at a later date than the entry tickets?

Cool, that's what I initially assumed... Just didn't want to do the wrong thing. Thanks for the clarification!

Who's doing the 'Banquet'? Is it an outside caterer or the Dalesbridge Centre?

My reason for asking is that ULSA was ripped off for a very expensive yet poor quality buffet* by the Dalesbridge Centre back in March, and not only would i personally not like to experience that again, I fear it will be an embarrassment for the British caving community if that was served to our visiting guests from overseas. I'd strongly recommend an outside caterer if possible, or at least get a guarantee of quality from the Dalesbridge Centre beforehand.

Sure it'll be a great week regardless.

[* Should have been a warm 3 course buffet for about £20 per head. 1st course: cold fish, cold potatoes, cold quiche, and limp salad - not what you want after a cold day caving. 2nd course: Coffee, just coffee. 3rd course: small portion of soggy shop bought profiteroles. No second helpings and no take aways allowed. Then to add insult to injury they tried to charge us extra claiming more people had turned up than had paid, despite there being loads of left overs.]

@bat: The banquet must be pre-booked and has limited numbers so we would really prefer it was booked now. But if you can't commit to the banquet yet please go ahead and book tickets. You'll need to email the bookings secretary later to amend your booking and add the banquet.

@Mike Butcher: The catering is going to be handled by an outside caterer who specialises in this kind of thing.  So you can expect something well worth the £20.

Regarding day rates: The cost of running the event is around the same per person per week irrespective of the number of days they actually attend. At this stage we do intend to offer day tickets on the door but we won't be able to set pricing for them until much closer to the event when we know that we can break even.

We do also have a capacity limit at the venue which we do not expect to reach...  However, if the event is too(!) successful we may not be able to offer day tickets at all.

Just took a look at the website - http://eurospeleo.uk/about/

One thing struck me, unless I missed it somehow.

Would it be an idea to say when it is. I'm sure it used to but doesn't seem to now?
