me and Jason had decided to give this little trip a go so with the relevant info from the people required for such knowledge we were all set. a quick change and a pleasant stroll soon saw us at the entrance to Box head. i set off and rigged the first pitch and the big pitch i left the deviation out to aid the retreval later even though it meant we both got a tad wet on the way down.

once down we looked at the dubious rope up to kendal extentions and decided to go the other way so a squeeze through and climb down, the tube is met, straight through and onward to our quarry. reaching the main stream we climbed up the boulders to the dodgy climb up on the right and then the even dodgier rope up. both at the top onwards we went with me pointing out the climb up from the kendal extentions had we come that way,

taking the left passage part way along we found the rope, i thought it best to let Jason go up first in case it gets nasty (plus he had the bag for the pull through rope), rope free was soon heard and i promtly followed.  at the top we followed the passage round a few bends till a choke is met. following the obvious route through a short thrutch up past a rather nasty looking rock reveals a small passage, sideways crawling continues for what seems like ages but isn't that far to be honest until the crux is met a very tight sideways squeeze down the rift. it's only about 2 m long but very comitting naturally Jason was first as there was no room for me to pass 'he he'. with a few squeals he made it and now it was my turn. head first in a tight squeeze almost on my head was not the best position for getting stuck but gravity was on my side so with a helping hand i was through. a real testement to the diggers for pushng this section but they could have capped it a bit more!  anyway more side ways crawling soon enlarges to flat out crawling till a wriggle up past some boulders pops you into a rather large aven 'very impressive' the way on is down a hole on the far right side and you guessed it more crawling albeit this time short lived as you soon encounter boulders and a squeeze past a large block pops you into hands and knees crawling which is a real relief!, i then led the way on and soon enough a familiar passage on the left marks known territory. 10 mins later we where both stood on the ledge overlooking the last short pitch and with the rope pulled down i rigged it and abbed to the bottom. we then had a gentle stroll to the entrance climbs and we exited to a pleasant deep red sunset an excellent end to a soon to be epic trip! oh and big thanks to Jason for volenteering to derig box head while i watched from the surface.

credit goes to the diggers for yet another connection and id recommend it to anybody as long as you are not to big that is!

Smollet - he's a wind up merchant.  No such connection (yet) for us mere mortals.  Unless of course he is a real god and can pass through solid choke and mud and rock.

When I was a bit smaller than I am now I did a through trip from S415 to R227 on Park Fell, total distance 25ft but only 1 inch high the whole way.  The drugs helped...
