Edited posts - bug?

Edit it now, after I've replied and see if you get the 'edited' message.

Next test would be to quote it and then edit it

Ahh, came up with the 'edit' message that time, is it because of your post or is it a timing issue?

Sorry only just seen this; I hope this clarifies:

You are able to edit your posts for up to 30 minutes after they've been posted.

In addition to the 30 minute setting there is another setting called "Courtesy edit wait time" which is described as: "Number of seconds allowed for a post to be edited before logging the last edit date."

This is set to 500 seconds. There was no reasoning behind this, it was the forum default and AFAIK nobody has ever flagged this before - it might be more sensible if the two times matched to prevent confusion.

Thanks for the clarification Bubba, however if they matched, the <Last edit tag> would only be seen on moderated posts, not self-edited posts.  :sneaky:

I'd suggest the "Courtesy edit wait time" should be much smaller, meaning that we can still edit posts to fix spelling etc but people would know that the post has been edited. That's how I thought this worked, until this conversation came up.

Still don't explain why the 'last edited' post appears to be spasmodic?

P.S. that last post was modified.

and this one - 7 minutes.

Here we are, 10 minutes later, any indication?

So it seems to be that alterations to original posts can be made up to 10 minutes after posting without people knowing, another 20 minutes alterations people will know about it, no alterations allowed after that.

Does that sound right? - - - it does to me!!!. :)

Check the timing of this modification?

I've really got no idea - the "last edited" post should only appear within 8mins 20secs...but of what exactly? It's not clear whether that limit is from the original posting time or the last edited time.

I'm sure somebody can test it - I can't be bothered as it really seems to be a non-issue.

I agree Bubba, it is really a non-issue, but also a happy diversion from all the heavy stuff elsewhere on UKC ;) ;) (y) (y)

Actually Bograt I've noticed a much more pleasant and relaxed atmosphere in recent days. There's been a lot more newbies posting. Long may it continue.
