Fixed cave rescue aids

On the issue of treading the same ground over and over and possibly refering I'm a boring bugger (which I'm not saying you were), how many folk go to the same gym week in week out, year in year out - Dowbergill is my gym,  or was.. I stopped my frequent visits because of the above.
We all cave for different reasons 'Inferus'. Different caves, new experiences etc etc... I had many long hard years doing that - now I'm just a Junkie, the same drugs but a varied dose...

I think they may have been there when you visited last year - if you used the Gypsum Traverse you'd have missed them - the two most unsightly ones are under there...

Is the issue the presence of these aerials, or their prominent position/scruffiness?

Because the remedial action (and the ethics of such action) are different in each case.

A bit of conscientiousness shown by the original installers would have gone a long way for me - the audacity shown by them in thinking these were acceptable was what got my back up the most.

A promise has been made by members of the team to sort them out a little and remove some of them btw...
I must admit I'd already decided to swallow my pride on this one - nothing would have pleased me more than removing the lot of them and decorating a certain building with them - but the trouble caused for myself and those who operate with me, even though I am a proper local, would not have made the outcome worth the hassle..

Personally I couldn't care less what other folk think.....
Quote snipped to provide the real answer....  ;)
Then why should other folk give a jot about your thoughts?

The majority of you lot don't have to look at them on a frequent basis.
It seems your own choice to do so; :-\ maybe you should reconsider your choices? :doubt:

Jason-- I for one think that comment is totally out of order, it suggests personal feelings against Simon, and the present attitude of UKC should not allow this----!

No personal animus...as I don't know Simon at all...just pointing out the absurdity of asking a question on an open forum where anyone can weigh in with their opinion, bring along their own thoughts, background and baggage and yet trying to specify how people should answer...

It was obviously posted to curry support for removal of the aforesaid aerial wires...and the fact that there is no mention of all the other crap, tat, old rope, fixed rope, laminated cards and discarded stuff that's in there (In fact we were specifically instructed NOT to think about/mention/consider these) might make the cynical suspect another motive than merely Cave Conservation...

nothing would have pleased me more than removing the lot of them and decorating a certain building with them

I don't blame your reaction Jason - I haven't been very clear but never intended on being. People are free to express their opinions regardless of my request not to answer in that manner - a rescue would ensue regardless of whether they did or didn't exist etc...

Simon, my last reply was slightly tongue in cheek, never comes across well on a forum. Everyone caves for a reason, everyone makes their own choice on what to do - I'm certain some people would look at what I do with bemusement. The gym reference was a good one. And as for boring, I might not agree with your general point of view but I'd never refer to you as boring!

Just out of curiosity: were these placed in a rescue situation (in other words - in a rush) or a pre-emptive move to install communication along the passage (I'm guessing they are spread out along the length of Dowbergill)?
