We were in Ease Gill at Eurika Junction the other week and were admiring where the water level had reached by the tide mark of foam on the walls.

Anyone know how long does this foam last, It always tends to look fresh ie around 24 hours,

Any ideas :?:

I Cant coment much on ease gill but i tend to go on the color and texture ie. white and fluffy recent more yellower and sticky older I once went in Goyden 3 days after a lot of water foam every where as you might expect and then back in about 5 days later 99% of it had gone! So i guess it lasted a week

we once found some calcited bubbles in between layers for flowstone floor whilst digging a long abandoned tubes - so I guess they'd lasted thousands of years - but in your average dales cave - I'd take a completely unfounded guess of a few days - a week tops.

Have seen proper foam in Carno and a few other places above dusty dry floors. Pretty sure it can last for weeks. Probably depends on what's in the water etc.
