Fountains Abbey would be good for a pleasant morning's amble round, and from there if you're still feeling the air of sanctity you could call in at Ripon Cathedral in the afternoon, or if you want more fresh air there's Brimham Rocks not that far away.  Alternatively, if liquid refreshment is required the Rat and Ratchet in Ripon used to be a good watering hole (can anyone more local confirm if that's still the case?) or take up on Dudleybug's suggestion and head over to worship at the temples of Masham....

I seem to recall there is a very fine drumlin swarm at Gargrave for the more geomorphologically  inclined. Well worth a look.

There is (or at least was) a very fine cake shop in Ingleton, though I can't for the life of me recall the name...

It's near the butchers that does excellent pies  :sneaky:

Sad to say both the cake shop and butchers have closed - nearest butchers is now at Country Harvest if you live in Ingleton. However there is plenty of cake to be had elsewhere in Ingleton, Inglesport Caf? for example nom nom  ;)

For cake a bit closer to Dalesbridge, there's a fab caf? at Feizor. A lovely walk (or ride) from the campsite along some wonderful bridle paths:

I'm no cyclist, however a friend accompanied us on a ride once on his mountain bike and loved it - there are miles of trails from Austwick & Feizor and some very high stone walls!

I would definitely have a look at the National Mining Museum near Wakefield, as someone previously suggested.

Pretty authentic trip underground, (110m shaft) lots of history and surface stuff to look at.

And best of all it doesn't cost anything to get in

Seem to not realise we are  trying to attract wives and partners, how about hiding all their hats and sending them 'up Ilkley moor' --, apparently there's some poems etched on stones 'up there' ??

If you're knackered from lots of caving, take a return rail journey from Settle to Appleby. There are great views across Ribblesdale, Dentdale and Mallerstang Common and of the Three Peaks. Have a walk and/or visit a pub in Appleby before returning, making sure you sit on the other side of the train to get the views from both sides!

Further to Molerat's suggestion can I suggest starting and finishing the journey at Horton-in-Ribblesdale. It is only 8 minutes up the line and well before the "best bits" more importantly the day return ticket is over 25% cheaper and the parking unlike Settle is free. It's just as close to Dalesbridge.

Get an OS map and go waterfall hunting!

Probably not particularly "allowed" but there is some good gordge jumping / canyoning to be had on Ingleton waterfall trail, and even more over the M6 in the Lakes.

I'd also recommend some waterfall hunting. Two good ones nearby are Stainforth Foss and Catrigg Force.

Stainforth Foss on the River Ribble is an impressive cascade with a deep plunge pool. An excellent spot for picnicking, swimming, watching and sitting in the nature. In Autumn it's a great place to watch salmon leaping, but you'll be lucky to see that in August.

Catrigg Force is just the other side of Stainforth village, a little way up Stainforth Beck. This secluded spot is less visited but is no less impressive. A tall waterfall crashes down into a rocky pool in a steep-sided mossy gorge. It is permitted to rest. Collection of forest fruits and herbs only under special regime.

Best of all, both these wonderful waterfalls are totally freeeee!  :)

For the perfect day out, combine these falls with a visit to the nearby Hoffman Lime Kiln (as suggested by MarkS), then tea and cakes at Ye Olde Naked Man Cafe in Settle.

How about jumping on the train to Skipton and sample some fine Yorkshire fayre and Malts, Hops and yeast products?
Starting off with Pies from the famous Stanforth's then sampling a plethora of fine ales in some of Skiptons better drinking establishments and Micro pubs including the 'Early Doors', The Beer engine, The Narrow Boat, The Woolly Sheep and the Sound Bar.
If a bit of culture is required a scoot around Skipton Castle is recommended. Failing that, Skipton still hosts the largest street market in the UK if shopping floats yer boat. There are also an abundance of outdoor shops though sadly most are big name stores that have forced out the small, independant retailers.
So, come to Skipton...its great ;)
Dont forget to catch the train back to Clapham.

I am currently writing some suggested walks specifically for Eurospeleo. There are four harder/longer walks (>25km) and four shorter ones (<25 km) all of which involve starting and ending at Eurospeleo so no need to drive anywhere. Of course, the Three Peaks is included with a little help from the Settle to Carslile Railway! These descriptions and some bespoke maps will be available on the Eurospeleo website very soon for people (especially those not familiar with the area) to plan some non-caving days out  ;)

There are of course several very good show caves in the area for the non-caver*.
A favourite of mine is White Scar: http://www.whitescarcave.co.uk/

* Yes, I did read the competition rule "Post your suggestion for non caving attractions"**.
** I chose to ignore that bit.

There is a tattoo parlour opened up in Ingleton - called 'Inkleton' would you believe.

I'm not much of a fan myself but do enjoy 'Tattoo Fixers' on telly occasionally and it seems tattoos are more popular than ever.  So if you want to make Eurospeleo a truly memorable event you could always pop in for a tat.

Maybe a way to get a printed (?) survey of your favourite cave system that you won't forget to take with you...?

(You wouldn't need to get it laminated, either!)
