Kirk Gill pot/cave

Hi Folks,

In my role as CNCC access officer I have had an email regarding Kirk Gill pot which can be seen on the 1:25000 OS map, just above Hubberholme in Upper Wharfedale. This email was asking about information for the cave such as parking, approach route and general information as we do not currently have it listed on the website.


I was wondering if anyone has recently visited and can give some information on where they parked, the access route they took and issues they came across (if any).

Hi Kai, Attached is the entry from Northern Caves 1 (Wharfedale & The North East.

Not recent but visited Kirk Gill Pot back in 2018, as an evening trip.
We parked on the roadside (small layby) a bit before The George. There is more parking (probably the better option) on the road to the north of the River Wharfe.

We had no idea on access/route and opted for the simplest option of following the Gill up from the road (might have briefly skirted the edge of the pub car park - can't recall exactly) - it's about 50m before you reach open access land. Probably best seeing if anyone else knows for definite or make enquiries to be certain.

Reading the notes on the trip we followed the Gill up until a split, took the right hand (dry branch), through a gate and found a wood covered hole with anchors (climbable). Upstream is more crawly, downstream is walking passage with a climb and a short section with stemples. A short but great little through trip.

If it helps any, I've attached a picture of the entrance area looking back towards the valley, with Rob directly over the small entrance to the pot. The wood-cover, what there is of it, can be seen to the right (next to the trusty old copy of Northern Caves1).
