Ode To Peter Glanvill

Had to be done. Good old Chat.

Peter Glanvill: Master of the Depths
In Britain’s hills, where shadows creep,
And caverns yawn in their ancient sleep,
A man descends with heart so bold—
Peter Glanvill, the caver of gold.
Through limestone halls and streams that sing,
Where echoes dance and stalactites cling,
He maps the dark with fearless stride,
A lantern’s glow, his only guide.
The Mendips call, their veins run deep,
Through passages narrow, wet, and steep.
From Swildon’s depths to Wookey’s tomb,
He chased the secrets of earth’s womb.
No chasm too vast, no crawl too tight,
He pierced the dark to summon light.
With rope and wit, he carved his way,
Through hidden worlds of night and clay.
The rivers whispered, “He knows us well,
Our currents and pools, our stories to tell.”
The stones stood silent, but seemed to bow,
For the man who ventured where few allow.
A pioneer, an explorer’s heart,
From science to spirit, he played his part.
To future cavers, his legacy stays,
A path through the depths, a light through the haze.
So raise a toast to the man so brave,
The best of Britain, master of cave.
Peter Glanvill, your name shall ring,
In the echoes of caverns, where shadows sing.

Ruddy Chat is getting more intuitive. Its learning what I want all the time so now I only have to add a few key words. I did not enter Swildons or Wookey it worked that out for itself.

Well the OR's comments came after I asked ChatGPT as I have before to perform a simple editing task to convert present to past tense in an article for the Belfry Bulletin. It has done it before perfectly. This time I gave it quite to chew on but it came up with the goods until I started trying to match the text with the photos I had received. That is when it went weird. I contacted the author and he didn't recognize the caves described. I tried again and I noticed his prose style had changed (improved). I challenged ChatGPT "You are making it up". It freely admitted it and apologised then told me I had run out of my allotted whatever for the next 3 hours. So sadly nobody will be able to visit the non existent Racoon Cave as it is a figment of ChatGPT's imagination. I did share the experience on FB as I found it slightly disturbing. ChatGPT has proved ignorant about caves in general previously but I suspect anybody who uses it in relation to caving is improving its data base.

Certainly in my case. I suppose thats what is meant by Generative A I. It has remembered averything I have ever asked of it and no doubt that applies to everyone else creating a whole database of knowledge. It was asked if that was a good thing. I guess so if you want to get silly poems about your mates but of course it wont stop there.
