Or Naturalistas - depends which end you go in I think. It is getting more visited I think as there were several cars there when we went whereas in the past nobody else about. Fun cave for all ages. Found another at Tahiche but it involved some grovelling in lava so a very short trip!
Sho' fil' from yonksback, in case it helps visualising it for anyone unfamiliar..

I am under the impression that access to the caves of Lanzarote is getting a bit fraught; is that right?

Correct. All caves' access is subject to permission(s) but few ask* and I've only heard of official permission trip(s) being in single figures for University/Research project(s). I ceased caving there many years ago once I found out about it. Perhaps another thread if the Mods concur.

* Knowing who/where to ask is the first main hurdle!

Mac's your man. After one false start he sorted out our Hundidero Gato trip. I reckon you need a BBS techique to deal with the bureaucrats. - not that I have tried. The caves are advertised widely to tourists (the wild ones too) on varioos Lanzarote web pages I looked at recently before our latest visit. They send out mixed messages! See https://www.ilanzarote.com/caving/

Thanks MroDoc: the website is interesting and arguably out-dated; surprised it's not in sepia, given some of the detail(s) on it. Hey ho. As I'm no longer doing anything on the island in this regard someone else can take the mantle.

It's not the only site. By the way have been all the way into Tahiche cave. I visited it but stopped at the first crawl but it seems to have a reasonable length. Also I note now there are guided lava tube trips and walks. The number of listed walks has gone up too. When we walked up Monte Corona years ago there was no path and now there is a marked route.

Green lake chamber, Withyhill cave. First visit to the cave and very grateful to Martin G for showing us around.

It's good to see that it hasn't suffered from vandalism since I was last there (some time ago).
Very very unlikely as there is a rigorous leader system and only about one or two persons can get in there at a time. I don't fit any more and I have had a few tries! The OR found it of course.

Morning all, are there any cavers living in Lanzarote? I’m a regular visitor to the island and would love to visit the lava tubes.

A dead bat at head height in one of the small caves at Khao Chakan, Sa Kaeo, Eastern Thailand. It seems to have gone to sleep and not woken up. An easy walk-in cave, but Thai people generally dislike caves, so I have the place to myself. I'm wearing a respirator because in the adjoining cave I got a 10-day histoplasmosis cough after digging in dusty conditions. Also - this was at the height of Covid, and suggestions were being made that it was a new bat virus, and I didn't want to breath the urine mist in this cave that houses about 1,000 of them.

My carers were kind enough to take me on a little excursion yesterday into Ogof Ffynnon Ddu. They took great care of me and nobody died or nuffink, so I call that a success.

Dave checking out the Prokofiev Series. He found it a little cosy and I made him wait there while I dashed back to pick up my camera. 😂
