All,
Looking for a quick afternoon trip in the Castleton area.
Rather than the classics, I've noticed Snelslow...A place I've never visited.
The topo's make it look quite interesting however can anyone answer the following?
On the DCA site there are photo's of two ents. One small rift in an out crop .
I'm assuming this is here:-

However, there is also a photo of a walled off surface shaft:-

There is no indication on the topo where this shaft comes in or whether this is an actual way into the cave??
Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers

It's a fun SRT trip, feels very Dales like. I believe it will take substantial water in bad weather and shouldn't be entered in wet conditions.

Care is needed lifting the shaft lid to avoid dropping either it or someone down the shaft as there isn't much room inside that wall. It is planned to replace the lid some time in the new year, making for a great little exchange trip.
A trip in and out via the lower entrance is exactly what you described - a quick afternoon trip and well worth doing.

Yes - excellent fun using both entrances! We've been in the cave when nearby Christmas Swallet was submerged and it didn't appear to be affected by the water levels.

Yeah, I've read somewhere that the water is now diverted to Christmas Swallet.

In particular, the current lid is actually several steel plates of large size and very heavy. It would be easy to drop one. The planned replacement will be much more user friendly. The Crewe rigging topo has space on the page for the shaft route when it is open for business.

If anyone does happen to do a trip soon, would you mind looking for a crab? It was dropped this weekend somewhere in Snelslow and should have a purple tough tag for MUSC

No carabiner in Snelslow, sorry. Looked like there had very recently been a lot of water down there, it may have been washed into the silts and gravel.
