It always sounds good when you can claim some higher authority for what you are doing - whether it's "God" or "the people" or "the majority of sensible cavers."

Personally, I'd rather put my trust in God than in any politician!

Was he really? I understood him to be a Catholic years ago . . . was he quoted (or misquoted) as saying that by going to war with Iran he was doing God's work? (Which rather begs the question ? is God such a lazy bastard that he leaves us to do his work?)

Well, he sent his kids to Brompton Oratory or whatever the school was called, and his Christian faith was evident - but I don't think he actually converted to Catholicism till he gave up the premiership. I might be misremembering.

I seem to recall he had to convert in order to marry Cherie who was catholic, although he didn't make a thing of it when he was at no10.

I got up at 5 am, and saw bugger all except clouds, so I watched it on telly, but it's not the same as seeing it "For Real". I saw the last one about 8 or so years ago, so I don't feel too dissapointed. Nice pictures though Amy.

Oh, and Amy, regarding your observation about how Your fellow countrymen are less interested in science, an American comedian, I can't recall who exactly, but it might have been Rich Hall, said

"Americans....a prime example of why you should never believe your own publicity.....we elected Bush Jr. F.F.S......Twice, as if we didn't learn the first time"

according to Google - his religious faith became important while he was at Oxford, but entering the Catholic Church was 2007.

Not only that, but Bush-isms are infesting our language! Someone told me the other day "this is one of the most deprivated areas of the country"

She was born and raised a catholic. So the kids have to be brought up as catholics (aside, boy am I glad Ewan didn't join UBSS when he was at Bristol!). However he didn't formally convert until after he stood down as PM. I rather suspect that this was a calculated political move based on the fact that many of the religious types in the UK still haven't forgiven that church for its political interference in our affairs in the past and would be highly unlikely to vote for a catholic party leader. NB this is a sectarian thing rather than a point of religious doctrine which few of them apart from Big Ian over in Norn Irn really care about.

Heh yeah....I think it was. I've heard stuff like that from him before.

Now...is it sad I only know of Rich Hall because I watch QI? haha.

That's 'cos your best comedians are all over here.
Yeah prettymuch.

and since we have digressed to comparing us and uk...why is it $500 now to fly back to detroit, and $800 to fly to london? Who the f*ck wants to go to detroit other than those of us who have family in the metro area? I fail to see why it got so expensive over the last few months. >_< In good news I guess flights are down to get to London now....was like $1200 not long ago. (Still outside my ability at the moment with the whole jobless thing, but if I could!!!)

My guess would be something related to the Olympics, as a lot of air carriers gear up for the games, they will cut flight costs

!/ to use the spare, unsold extra capacity laid on to cope with the coming games, because the aircraft have to be arranged long in advance, you can't just decided to stick on a few extra planes as and when
and
2? to make travelling there more affordable, thus selling more seats......More cheaper seats = more profit.

Not a Transit, I don't think, but at least it's caving-related...
