As some will know already, we’ve had a weather station at Bull Pot Farm for a few months now. After a few teething problems relating to getting wireless signals through thick stone walls, it seems to be working reliably. The aim with it is both to provide a view of current weather conditions at the Farm to help answer the question of “is it really as wet at the Farm as the weather forecast says and should I go caving there today”; and to build up a record of weather over time which people can use for cave science.
We’ve just added support for WeatherLink, so it’s now set up to export data to two websites, as well as archiving it locally:
* Met Office WOW
* WeatherLink
The Met Office site is a little clunky to use, but if you go on the ‘Table’ or ‘Graph’ tabs, you can look at historic data and trends. On the ‘Table’ tab, you can also export the data as a CSV, though you have to be logged in to the Met Office website to do that, and exports are limited to one month of data at a time by the Met Office. If you want access to all our historic weather data for a project, please message me and I can download it from the weather station for you.
The WeatherLink site is a little easier to read at a glance, but doesn’t allow historic data to be viewed.
Excited to see what people will do with this data! Please get in touch if you’re having problems with it, or if the weather station stops reporting for more than a few hours.
