I think its mainly just geography.

Yes,  I admit  never really took an interest in it until more recently. I had no idea it goes into the interesting expedition stuff and there would be so much to do and see, I thought it was things for the older "generation". But mainly I guess I never fancied traveling all that way and not doing any caving.  In the last few years I would have gone but I knew no one else who was going :(. But this time loads I knew went of course.

Hopefully I can entice someone to come with me to Mendips next year as I definitely want to go back.

At least you have found it now and can appreciate what is happening round about you!.

Yesterday. I spent a good half hour on the patio in the rain washing my wife's caving kit following her Otter Hole trip.

Washed rope and other gear. The less well advertised aspect of the hobby..

I just pop in Swinsto every so often that cleans my kit better then any jet washer can.

Same with Swildon's down south, almost seems a shame to get my kit muddy now it's nice and clean again..

Since folks seemed to like my video of Josh's visit....thought I'd share this one of our trip last weekend to Whiteside, NC. It is abou a 750ft cliff, 650 of that freehang, which our long rope team is currently training at for both Golondrinas and other big Mexico pits this winter, and for El Capitan (vertical half-mile, single rope freehang) next summer.

edit: aww it doesn't embed anymore? sadface.

I patched my undersuit, in between putting epidurals in pregnant ladies. I think the midwifes think I'm a bit crazy.

Well it is an odd thing for a Chartered Accountant to be doing...  :)

Handed over a bag of tackle so someone else can go caving tomorrow whilst I fester/have other things to do at home.
(Roll on Wednesday evening!)

Washing gear? Isn't that what Diccan and other such damp pots are for?  ::)

You took your undersuit into a sterile hospital environment?

No, I took it into a hospital environment. I think stitching it in theatre would probably raise more than eyebrows
