One of the only places I can possibly match with the clue is Burning Drake Mine at Winster, but I can't honestly think where the graffiti would be. So put me out of my misery :)

That was my initial thought, but owing to no clues being given when i mentioned if it was near winster earlier in the thread,i dismissed that area.Burning drake or Plackett.

No ducks were harmed. If you want a clue, it’s south of Winster. North of Wirksworth. It’s got a sort of ‘Franglais’ name, which is good like Rover (crossword clue).
Admittedly it is a bit of a collectors item, but I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. However, the range of dates and names suggest others have been too. Trickier now but not impossible I imagine, but it’s 40 years ago.

Ah, I know where this is now - Lampwick and I surveyed it a couple of years back when access was less problematic, shall we say, but there's certainly no access at the moment!
Dirty old mines need love too....

I think you still have to name it to claim it. A bit like saying “Yes I know the answer, can I have the prize?”; if that were possible I’d now have a Honours degree and be the pub quiz champion of Derbyshire.   :smartass:

Markpot has it. You’ll see that one of the names is Rex Smith, who was Mine Manager of the place that is out of bounds  ;) when I worked there. As an aside, he’d worked for Derbyshire Stone at Riber Mine before they started working limestone underground and they started off using the same leg drills from Riber, drilling off the back of a quarry dumper on a platform.

Oh gawd. It's getting difficult - most of what I have left is either super-easy or impossible! Ok, try this - one for those who can't help poking around ;)
