Can't get my head round using splay in survex. Whats the format for omitting a splay shot?

wasnt thinking when i wrote that, basically i dont want the splay shots to be included in the total length.

flag as SPLAY. Splay shots are not included in length calculation

I understand that, I just cant get it to work in survex. Ive got this:

6 7 3.84 159.38   1.24
7 8 3.73 124.71 -10.76
*flags SPLAY
8 8a 0.50 244.23 -44.16
*flags SPLAY not
8 9 1.55 187.72 11.18
9 10 2.46 110.69 -2.32
10 11 3.37 157.29   0.84

What am i doing wrong?
