Access lost to Ogof Carno

My garden faces north as well, Duncan, but it is quite a long one and catches a lot of the sun whenever it decides to shine. Feel free to drop in one of those rare days.

So far as I am aware, Cambrian Caving Council are indeed keeping a close watch on the situation and are trying to come up with the best possible access arrangements in the long term. If that means keys are more readily available for any caver who might want one, so much the better. Until the roadworks are finished (they haven't even started in earnest yet) all one can do is keep a watching brief.

Ignoring the roadworks for the time being: If it has really seriously been suggested that allowing cavers access to the adit is a terrorism risk, someone somewhere is clearly bonkers. Would terrorists attempt to infiltrate the caving world or get hold of the cavers' key so as to access the tunnel? I think they'd more likely just turn up one dark night and cut the lock or gate off!

Rhys,

I was personally informed by a very reliable source that the terrorism risk, crazy as it sounds, is a real issue. This is in line with national governmental policy concerning the safeguarding of public water supplies.

I was also told that the adit might already have been alarmed and that any unauthorised incursion would be most unwise. There was no evidence of this when I visited the entrance several weeks ago but (obviously) I cannot say what might have been installed further underground. No "Use of Lethal Force Authorised" signs as yet, but it's getting more like Area 51 all the time!

Seriously though, I would suggest that people keep well away for now, be patient and wait to see what happens once the roadworks are completed.
