We will be highlighting with slides and explanations the explorations we have been doing over the years and that of cave divers plus research of the fascinating world of nearby lead mines.
It's making me feel old!I don't know the Fountains cafe or Mrs Morphet, so this thread is making me feel young![]()
Under the top arch of the viaduct - slept there many a time. Keep meaning to pop up and have a look but never get around to it. It always seemed the perfect doss. Sort of place if I was homeless I'd live at. Anyone been there recently? This seemed to be the pattern of my life for so many years except I avoided the 'pleasures' of van life by kipping in my car (or under the viaduct arch just above the nearby road).
It must be 30 years at least since I dossed there. If I'm remembering correctly the ground was bare and dry but there was a bit of a slope and it could be draughty. In the eighties I was the 'lucky' owner of a Leyland Princess. Although it was a heavy rust bucket it had quite a spacious back seat for sleeping on. I remember sleeping in the carpark of the New Inn at Clapham once with the backdoor open and being woken by the rain hitting my face.Under the top arch of the viaduct - slept there many a time. Thanks - I didnt mean to pry! I was just wondering if something had changed with Inglesport to make you less likely to go there - I haven't been there for about 5 years. Again, nothing to do with Inglesport, I haven't been to a cafe in the area for that period.I now live in Settle, so the other cafes are closer... and I'm no longer a student, so I don't faff around in a cafe until midday anymore! These days I have breakfast at home / at a caving hut and try to get underground by 10amI'm sure I'll frequent Inglesport cafe every now and then when friends are visiting.
Inglesport is the main caving cafe, but if I'm going out for breakfast / lunch as a local I'd probably go for one of the cafes/tearooms I mentioned, because I prefer the food and vibes there, and they are places I'm more likely to comfortably curl up with a book. It's a matter of personal preference. Back when I was a student, I hadn't even tried any of the other options, and we borrowed our helmets from Inglesport too so it was always convenient to stick to Ingleton. Especially because all the other places I mentioned are a much longer drive from the farm.
Especially Yorkshire caversIn case it has relevance (it might not) my own quote based on decades of experience is "You can make money out of caving but you can't make money out of cavers".
Their veggie/vegan options are getting better, though there's always room for improvement. The village in general is pretty much behind the times in that department, with a growing market that most establishments don't seem to want to tap into. Nuts, considering its a tourist village with a lot of competition.Inglesport is spenny! And their veggie options are a little lacking. It being above a caving shop is a definite plus though

Still the case when you're old. I've lost count of the number of restaurants I've wanted to try, and which have closed before I got round to going.I think when you're younger you take it all for granted that things will carry on the same.
I don't know, they tend to be regular customers that buy lots of drinks!Customers who “curl up with a book” are a cafe owners nightmare!
