Bernie's Closed

That didn't last long! I've not been to the dales since it opened, and won't be up before it's closed again!

That's a real shame just got used to their higher quality brekkies (sorry Inglesport). Any clue why Bernies is closing?

Looking at the reviews on Google they're almost all very positive. There are always a few moaners on these things but largely they're very good. I should get over there before it's too late.

I suspect that there being five cafes in Ingleton doesn't help. There is undoubtedly a finite number of customers to share between the five establishments. Whilst the good quality of the food, not to mention the marvellous staff is a bonus, the fact that the opening hours could be unpredictable, won't have helped. There's been many a time I've seen it closed, when the opening times in the window indicated there was over an hour to go. The recent changes to opening times have been shortened again.

Caveat emptor ..... ? 😟
The reason given was "personal reasons of the owner" (given it's described as "personal" we shouldn't speculate on the owner's personal reason). That does suggest not being a problem/complication with the premises and nothing preventing its use for a viable business. So maybe not caveat emptor? Hope the sale goes well and they get a better offer than their asking price.

(Apologies if your post was merely a pun around Latin "cave" and I totally missed the point)

To clarify; My comment had nothing to do with the personal circumstances of any current or previous owners, but was in relation to the cafe situation in Ingleton. With Bernie's now closed, there are still five cafes in Ingleton. If the Bernie's premises were to re-open as a cafe, then that would be six cafes. Refurb of another former cafe is currently underway, with a view to reopen in the spring - making a total of seven cafes in the village. The question is, can the village sustain seven cafes as going concerns? For the record, I used to go in the recent edition of Bernie's and found the food and service very good.
