Our next CNCC Committee meeting is this Saturday, 10th June, 9:30am at Clapham Village Hall.

As well as our Committee reps, we welcome (and encourage) any interested people to come along either to see what goes on or to have your say on any of the agenda items, or to bring new ideas or requests for how CNCC could be better supporting northern caving.

Our meetings are always friendly, welcoming, and usually finished before lunch time :D

Online joining is available (contact secretary@cncc.org.uk for joining details), although we do recommend in-person attendance if you can for the best experience.

Documents, including agenda and reports are on our meetings page:

Spending money is a big discussion item for this meeting. Many caving organisations sit on large pots of cash in low-interest accounts, currently depreciating in value while inflation is so high. The CNCC is a minor offender in this as we currently hold reserves of around £14000, of which we need at least £6000 to fund annual activities, pending reimbursement of most of this from BCA (who fund most of our annual expenses). We will be discussing if and how we could spend the remainder. Exploration grants are being discussed, as well as the possibility of renting an equipment store. The latter could allow us to invest in stocks of conservation, digging and training equipment to help us spend money and better serve northern cavers, but as always, volunteer resource would be needed to make this possible.

You probably don’t need any ideas on ways to spend money, but a surveying device to take readings with, disto from some source (if available) or other surveying device.

How you organise the hire and use of this is, I guess, up to you, but with 4 clubs within easy reach of helwith bridge/settle there could be somewhere at either location or inbetween that would allow for storage of the device, or somewhere that would allow people to pay a £20-£50 deposit/non-refundable payment for loan of the equipment. 40 loans at £25 non-refundable would pay for a bric4?

There was general agreement to spend down the reserve cash CNCC holds due to its devaluation from inflation. Exploration grants and storage facilities were two ideas being looked at. All ideas welcome, I reckon. Other topics discussed included non standard anchors, national access issues, name changes, more introductory days, signage, constitutional housekeeping, etc. Anyway I am treading on the PR Officer's toes a little here. More detail will be forthcoming through the CNCC's excellent media channels I'm sure.
