I'm sure it is. Perhaps instead of saying there is a relative scarcity of new discovery, I should have said new caves. There are still many areas of the US that have not been checked by cavers, and many undocumented caves to be found. How this relates to choices in mapping methods is unclear to me, but I suspect there may be some connection.
