When was the last time anyone went down Hungerhill?
There is no sign of the mine level entrance now and the timbered shaft fell in long ago

There must of been some ground movement there then. The mine level entrance was redone with heavy plastic pipe, sat on a steel frame. It looked bomb proof when we did it!
Just checked diary, it was finished July 2005. I thought it was 10 years ago max. Tempus fugit again.

Mind you, the ground there is crap. It's all infill that's been washed in over the years and has a lot of water running through at times.
I've seen a fairly new drift in similar ground (including over a 100 tons of concrete) completely destroyed once the water found its way.

Two things spring to mind. The entrance might be just buried under dead vegetation?
Compare this photo with the one at the start of the thread. ( not sure if this photo is mine, Lionel Parkinson's or Dave Webb's -my apologies)

The second is, that if it has collapsed only the top few feet may be damaged. I've checked back through the stuff I have and although most of the lining is in that heavy corrugated plastic pipe, the top few feet is made of single skin GRP tube. It could be only this that has collapsed.
edit - although the top is reinforced with a steel ring, that the grill is bolted to (IIRC).

I could have sworn the entrance was over to the left when we first broke through
