Hunters Hole: problems with anchors

...and the Peak District rigging guide is still in print, as well as being continually updated. Just a bit closer to the deep south for you.
I am sure the mendip cavers arent really reactionary luddites that prefer chopping bolts and soloing ladders...

If you knew how much hassle having to chop that bolt involved us in you'd realise it was the last bloody thing we wanted to do.

You appear to have identified a niche, why don't you fill it? Not many Mendip caves will need this work, so it shouldn't take you too long.

But the information is already drawn and available from others closer to Mendips  :clap2:
Ive only made one topo and that's for Hunters (no disrespect to existing topos) but mine is currently only good enough for a guide on our own club web site - not good enough for public domain.

Yep Peak District sure is nearer and somewhere we will shortly cave  ... and I have a topo rigging guide for it right in front of me  ;)  My same observations apply as for Yorkshire.  Recommendations for camp sites and cheap accom in Peak District with drying rooms and showers greatly appreciated  :kiss2:

Yet they, whoever they are, seem unlikely to publish it in the near future

If it's good enough for one caver, surely it's good enough for another?

Fair comment, but my one for Hunters is not yet up to "my" own standards, so Im not ready to make it public and have it subject to other peoples comment, but am happy enough that its found its way on to our own club web site as I know the members who may use it.

Maybe those kind enough to have drawn up Mendip topo's could be kind enough to make them available to public domain such as the Google map, unless of course they have commercial reasons in mind and would like to publish....

I for one would happily pay a few pounds for a complete and up to date set of Mendips topo guides.

I stayed at the Orpheous hut earlier in the year, excellent facilities and a splendid location.

Today we s.r.t.'d Hunter's Hole
We did Ledge Route,
then used slings to do Rover Pot.

Carbon dioxide prevalent, even @ the start
of Gas Street.

My question is,
using the "P" bolts,
from the bottom of the entrance ladder, the rope rubs quite badly,
between first and second "Y" hang.
I noticed a spit, perfectly placed for a deviation.
Is this spit still useable and is this spit still part of the "P" bolted
hang :-\
Hopefully, Saturday, I will remember to take a ring hanger with me to see if the spit between the first & second Y hangs works, then do a deviation to avoid the bad rope rub.

canofwormster, do you want to go and check all the spits on mendip?

Happily if you'll pay my travel costs an hourly rate @ £1,000 per hour

Which compares quite handily with all those folks who spend a lot of their own time placing and testing bolts for free, for the benefit of their fellow cavers.

Glad we know where you stand.

OOOOhhhh

handbags over a bit of sarcasm eh??

I rigged Sago Pot route
on Saturday, I took a ring hanger with me.
Yes, the spit on the entrance pitch, between first and second "Y" hangs does work.
I fitted the hanger & a very short deviation, it worked well, now no bad rub.
I have however, taken our ring hanger with me. :'(

From memory, this is probably more than adequate:

Rope lengths on the generous side.

GeoffR undersells himself, the Hunter's topo he has drawn is of a similar quality to the excellent one above.

I think his concern is that the original draft was based on another topo of unknown origin, but probably not unknown to people on this forum. AFAIAC his considerably revised draft is a work in its own right and he has every right to put his own (or our club's) name on it.

Did any of the "P" bolts in Hunter's Hole,
actually need to be replaced?

still awaiting an answer :-\

The answer is no.  There was no problem with the anchors, only with the testing.

Cheers Mister Sparrow,

Do you think the Northerners have been hoodwinking us Southerners into thinking they have been "testing"
all their hangers.
It seems strange that this problem only seems to have arisen after The C.S.C.C.
received the B.C.A. bolt tester  :-\
