Log burner losing smoke

Possibly a useful map to check where you currently sit as regards smoke controls areas;

I appear safe in NW Durham and I do use kiln-dried wood, anthracite and durham ovoids anyway, so a right goody two-shoes and the hound does like lozzacking in front of the stove.

There is an irony in them being so polluting, but being loved by the more eco-conscious members of society.

Chris.
I don't see the irony.

People selflessly taking a hit to their own health in order to make the future better for all.

I find the complaints by those selfish individuals who want to condemn future generations to catastrophic climate change in order to mitigate their own discrete issues with local air quality pitiful.

People need to get some perspective. They are not individually more valuable than all our futures.

I would agree that climate change is more of an issue than air pollution in the UK, but nobody is 'selflessly taking a hit'. People burning wood and coal will be mostly sending that pollution out the chimney and it will affect primarily other people (and I'm guilty too because we _occasionally_ burn wood in our fire in Ingleton, but typically only once a month or so).

It's also _mostly_ (at least outside properly rural areas) richer people (or at least middle-class) people who regularly burn wood and/or coal who could afford not to.

To be fair the stoves aren't as bad as this, which I interrupted last summer, not 50 metres from my flat, and right next to the busiest food street in Sheffield. I told him over the gate that burning car tyres wasn't appropriate in an urban setting on a Saturday afternoon, and that I was phoning the police. Miraculously the fire was out in less then three minutes. I didn't phone the police.
