Man in the Roof

I've done the Daren through trip several times, but never via Man in the Roof. I can't find any information on this route anywhere online and it's intriguing me!

I wonder if someone could anyone shed some light on it. E.g.:

- what's the caving like (thrutchy / crawly / rifty, etc)?

- how hard is it (say in comparison to the entrance series)?

- how on earth do you exit it to Antler Passage (last time I looked at the handline coming down from it, it looked pretty sheer with no footholds)?

Any information very gratefully received 👍

Man in the Roof passage itself is easy going, with a few formations. Mostly walking.

Dropping into Antler requires traversing along the top of a deep narrow rift, making sure not to drop, as you'll probably become wedged. The rift gets wider where it meets Antler and it's possible to carefully descend to the floor of Antler.

It's been a long time since I did Antler and there wasn't a handline on the climb down then. I don't remember noticing if there was a handline there, the last time I did the through trip. There was still a rope hanging from an old climb, next to it though.

The slot is too narrow lower down, so exiting from Man in the Roof you have to emerge at the higher level from the slot using the rope for assistance to maintain height until you can swing your legs down.

And for an extra point, who was the Man in the Roof?
