Can I ask about its history? As the age is unknown, I presume you haven't owned it from new?
Yes that’s correct I have not owned this from
New. I bought somebody’s set up as they was the same size as myself , They didn’t want to split the kit so I ended up with a few spare items this was 1 .

To the best of my knowledge bobbins look very good , If anyone is unsure they could torque check it .

If I had any doubt I wouldn’t sell it.

I don’t usually sell kit so don’t think I buy and sell , genuine 1 of .

I've got one that I bought in '86 that has the metal catch & that smooth plastic handle. They changed to a ribbed handle not long after IIRC.
edit - That smooth handle cover used to fall off after a few use's too.

Not sure the reservations people seem to have, if I needed a Stop I'd snap that up right away. They don't make them like they used to!
As long as the main bobbin nut is tight good and solid, it should be fine, better than a new one. I'd use it!!
Not sure anyone has said anything that is a reservation about its age? Just a discussion around age of stops in general?

the only reservation was to do with no knowledge of its history, which is probably a valid question, especially as it’ll be the only thing preventing you from taking a long fall with a sudden stop

Assuming the bobbins aren't worn out, two things I would consider about using an old Stop: on older models both side plates were completely flat and later on (maybe late 1980's?) Petzl changed the fixed side plate to add some small bends on the edge to make it less liable to bending (compare Versions E and F on Gary storrick's website http://www.verticalmuseum.com/VerticalDevicesPage/Rappel/StopBobbinPages/SBobbin0435.php ). If I had a choice I'd opt for version F or later, if I had a choice between available Stops. Also I'd be tempted to undo the bolts on the bobbins and apply Loctite and torque them to the recommended torque (as per Petzl's Stop instruction leaflet). But that's up to whoever buys the second-hand Stop.
