Volunteers needed - 8-9th April

Hello all

Last March we posted the following warning relating to Foxholes at Gaping Gill:

We've managed to get permission from Ingleborough Estate to perform restoration work at the entrance on 8th and 9th April, to clear the collapse. We've already emailed our conservation volunteer mailing list, but are still short on numbers to make up a 10-strong team to do some heavy bucket lifting work.

We appreciate that this is a weekday - but if you can volunteer to help, please email conservation [==at==] cncc.org.uk

Reasonable travel expenses for volunteers can be covered (car sharing desirable as funds are tight).

No, don't! I'm having email issues at the moment (mainly liveware issues)

Please PM me on this forum. And if you've already emailed, please also PM me here because I almost certainly won't see your email.

You don't need to be available for both days, any help at all would be valuable.

Well done all, but I have to ask 'why' go to that effort? It is a locked cave with very restricted access. The Clapdale Crawl has been silted up for years. Is someone planning to open it up again as I understood that is an enormous job and unlikely to be popular with the showcave enterprise. Otherwise it was an archaeological site/dig. Is further work planned?

According to Yorkshire Ramblers, Fox Holes is "a “fortified” rock shelter which is probably unique in England" . . .
