whats at the bottom of Jingling Pot (west Kingsdale)?

I was there last weekend and at the bottom of the main pitch there is a little traverse out and a short pitch landing in a rift, from there, there is a dug out shaft with scaffold bar across leading to another shaft with a dodgy looking rope tied to a piece of wood, from the bottom of that is a little passage leading off... anyone know where this goes (i couldn't be arsed going any further!) Does it link to Aquamole?

sorry for posting on main forum but was getting a bit tired of the; 'in a club- out a club' arguement!

The original intent was that the passage would lead to Aquamole Aven... but the dig was never completed... and it was heading in the right direction. It was dug on and off throughout the late 80s and early 90s. I think Geoff Yeardon [and others] was one of the people involved with it.

There used to be a lot of crap lying at the bottom of the shaft from digging exploits... is it still there??

Main shaft?? Last time I was there that had been tidied up..

I had heard they were digging in Aquamole in some passage that was heading towards Jingling but not sure if it was true or if they actually got anywhere.....?

I'm glad they cleaned up the crap at the bottom of the surface shaft. Anyway... I am assuming that you are aware of Aquamole Pot being the direct route into Aquamole Aven?? The original scaling operations done from Aquamole Aven via dives from Kingsdale Master Cave. Much of it was done in the 1980s by Geoff Yeadon... what he found was... quote "a horrible low airspace section over thick, glutinous mud before enlarging in an expansive bedding underneath Jingling Pot." The original pushes were in an attempt to find an easy dry route to the base of Aquamole so they could use it as a dive base. The digs in Jingling's rifts and beddings were abandoned because of their awkward nature and rendered any route into the system difficult from this end. I don't believe the two were ever connected.

If you want more information on Jingling Pot and its relationship to Aquamole Pot you might want to get yourself a copy of Descent 168... it has a three page article on it. Rupe Skorupka is the one who wrote a very nice piece on it.

I hope this helps.

don't forget one partly decomposed sheep at the bottom of the main shaft and, when you get to where the digging began, there's some scaffolding and stuff that's been dumped

There's nothing like the smell of a partly decomposed sheep at the bottom of an entrance pitch . It would be nice if the folks that took in the scaffold would take it out!! Although... that night have been 20 years ago.
