Mines near Taddington and Priestcliffe

Anyone know where I can look to find out any information about the mines around Taddington and Priestcliffe?


I've looked on the Aditnow map, but can't see any near where I was looking today. Which seemed strange!

Hmm it's south of the A6, so not Maury Mine, though I did go for a walk there too and have to agree with the article, some very well preserved mine workings. Though I was on a flying visit as it was pissing it down and blowing a gale in early January.

Had a bit more time to have a good look around south of the A6.

Keith Rimmer has contacted me and T-pot has told me to come and listen to him while he turns water into wine near the ropeworks.  :tease: :halo:
 
I know that one well, it's the Tapistone vein and the fenced-off shaft in the woods just below the choked one in the field is Tapistone Tongue Mine. The Orpheus had a look at it in the 1970s but had a lot of problems with instability that led them to call it "Death Hill Shaft"- the roll of steel sheet is what they were using to try and keep the shaft top together after the ginging heeded the call of gravity. There's an adit lower down the hill but it's massively run in, hence I've never bothered asking the National Trust about digging it out.

Regarding the water, I'm not entirely sure but there are a few places in Taddington Dale with small springs which  makes me think there's either a clay wayboard or a less permeable horizon in the limestone.

The Lead Legacy entry is only for the ecology of the short section of vein in the fields, I'll see about getting the master inventory updated at some point to cover the remains in the wood too.
