Title: Caving Video Clips thread
Post by: Chris J on December 06, 2009, 08:02:02 pm
http://www.casj.co.uk/culiembro (http://www.casj.co.uk/culiembro) - then hosted on YouTube.

This was the film I showed at Hidden Earth incase anyone missed it. It is split into two parts for YouTube. Part one doesn't seem to want to play in HD but part 2 plays fine in HD - at least for me. Someone can tell me if they get the same problem?

cheers,
Chris

A little (unedited) footage shot last Easter in Saints de Glace / Trou Qui Souffle (Vercors), showing prussic'ing, getting off the top of the pitch, passing typical cave passage etc.
Meant as a teaching aid / for our introductory slideshow for new members, but we still haven't got around to editing it down into something more presentable.

What kind of camera did you guys use on the Low Douk Cave trip here, and all the other nice clips you have on the Thursday-night-club channel on youtube? it's not excellent but it does the job pretty well. I was just wondering if it's bulky, expensive or anything as such...?!!

Couldn't sleep last night, so 3am found me trawling Amazon for caving books! Came across one called 'Divers of the Dark (Exploration of Caves under Budapest)' about Molnar Janos. The cover picture looked enticing, so I did a quick Google. One of the links led me to a site full of high def technical diving videos............many of which are cave diving oriented.

I've searched this site to see if someone has already posted about this, but couldn't find any references.
Apologies if I've missed any and have repeated anyone's efforts.

http://vimeo.com/groups/hdtdv/videos/3393540 (http://vimeo.com/groups/hdtdv/videos/3393540)

This takes you to the first clip (Peacock Springs).
Others are found by scrolling through the thumbnails on the right hand side.
I've only skimmed a few clips, but the quality of them has been excellent so far.

Enjoy!   :)

I took a mate of mine down to sump one for her first trip below the 20 yesterday, along with a good friend, Noel Cleave.
Clare is a cave diver and dives at a very high level abroad, but has done no Uk cave diving and has only just taken up dry caving. We exchange patience in that I cave at her pace and she poses happily and without complaint while I practise my photography  ;D

I've seen sump one with airspace over the last few years in the summer, but I don't think I've seen it with this much before. What do you think?

Here's my video entry for Hidden Earth this year:

ShAFF 2011 Arcteryx Adventure Shot Entry - Rob Eavis (http://vimeo.com/20918866)

It is made from around 1000 still images, some with over 5 minute exposure times, and using no computer generated effects.
Although this is the version entered for the AV section of the Sheffield Adventure Film Festival earlier this year, it's basically the same... Well happy that it won both competitions!

Last Week-end a team of our club made a trip in one of our discoveries and made the following clip

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1068395/Movies/Fagnoules-Buc/Fagnoules%20waterpret%202012%20LQ.wmv (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1068395/Movies/Fagnoules-Buc/Fagnoules%20waterpret%202012%20LQ.wmv)

This clip was made in Chantoir des Fagnoules - Belgium. This cave is currently 2969m long and has several water passages. The movie was shot when there was a lot of water.

All credits go to Paul and Annette who did the trip.

Enjoy

Great stuff Rhys. What a different and immediate world it is now. I hope somebody is logging the cave video on U Tube as it will become a valuable record one day. We recently filmed Radford Cave, North West Inlet in OCAF and Ogof Capel.  Peter also did some stuff in Reservoir and Withyhill, part of a longer term project. Sadly anything I appear in resembles Comic Cuts rather than caving.

I shot this video with a second hand Canon G9 and housing in a little cave in France, called the Event de Rodel, this September.
The cave is in the Herault, is very shallow (maximum 15m) and lovely and clear. We had a lot of fun running all over it with cameras and getting some nice shots. Unfortunately Andras (the diver mostly in the shots) had his torch on a low power setting which caused pink strobing on my camera screen. It was too complicated to fix this underwater so I just edited around it and this is what we got.

For those of you who get grainy, noisy video footage, it is worth buying yourself a download of Cyberlink Powerdirector 11 (I have version 9 which is ok for most stuff I do) and also comes with a sound editing programme. It was about £30 and worth every penny. You can deal with noise (essential for dark footage) colour correct, sharpness - pretty much all the editing tools you would want for a photo editor. It's quite sophisticated for the price and always surprises me with what it can do.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the vid  :)

I'm not entirely sure why I hadn't posted this here before..thought I had..anyway...
This is a sort of 'round up' of our best bits of 2012. It has a bit of everything, plenty of caves (though not all) and it was a good excuse to learn a bit more about editing. The first rule is don't EVER re-render anything (note the France clips) and always work from raw footage in the programme. It was an experiment in being lazy, but mattered much less in this fun video. Warning - it isn't short....

Some caves are tight, some caves are wet, and some caves are tight and wet. These are the really fun ones.
Shakespeare's Cave is in Cwm Pwca, which translates as Valley of the Goblin, which is downstream of Devil's Bridge in the Clydach Gorge, South Wales.
A stream resurges from the cave which offers a sporting trip involving a thorough soaking even in summer.
The cavers in the video are all members of Dudley Caving Club and/or South Wales Caving Club.

Title: The Dudley Caving Club Film Unit - Best of 2014
Post by: Caver Keith on December 08, 2014, 02:24:22 pm
It's that time of year again when the Dudley Caving Club Film Unit members get together and sit around a bottomless teapot, eat warm mince pies, look back over the caving year and exchange reminisces.  For the last 2 years this has resulted in codging together a caving highlights video. This year will be no exception (sorry) and much codging together of video clips is happening. The aim is to have the video completed by Christmas so that our many fans can share our underground adventures with us over the Christmas festivities. We actually do these videos as a service to the caving community. Remember our tag line is "We do these caves so that you don't have to."   So why not stay at home, keep warm and dry and let us do your caving for you?

Below is a link to a mercifully short preview, but you can always save the 1 minute 11 seconds of your life you will never get back by not clicking on the link.

A prize!!! We will have to stoke up the computer and collect up all of the bits of digital video off the cutting room floor and start glueing them together, and hope we haven't lost any pixels under the carpets and rugs, and that will be the easy bit. The Dudley thespians are such a load of luvvies. They will argue about who is the star of the show and if we've captured their best side. The life of a caving videographer isn't easy. Then there's the critics. It's enough to drive a chap to drink. Mmmm Beer. Is there anything it can't do?

The video posted by Gibbonda is very interesting.

I thought the idea of the red barrier tape placed in front of the beautiful flowstone cascades in Swildons was to try and stop cavers from touching them???

Maybe some education is required on Mendip to ensure our caves are protected better into the future.

It would be better if videos posted on ukCaving showed best practice rather than poor conservation practice as detailed 50 seconds into the video.

Dudley Caving Club has two talented cave photographers, Mark Burkey and Brendan Marris. Over the years they have both taken some amazing cave photographs (many of which have appeared on UKC), but when a trip to Ogof Gofan was being planned they both decided to try and capture something a little different. A shortly to be released video will document their success, or otherwise, in pushing the boundaries of cave photography, not the mention pushing the patience of their victims models.

Consummate photographers they might be, but put them in front of a video camera and . . . . . . well best watch this short promo video and judge for yourself if their projects stood any chance of success.

The release date for the finished video is scheduled for Monday 28th September 2015.

(https://c2.staticflickr.com/8/7396/27747719465_70929f71fe.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/JgYjhi)

Last time he went caving Keith had a nasty fall which resulted in a 3 week stay in the major trauma unit in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, where 3 surgical teams assembled around his bed and vied to be first to get him into the operating theatre, and where this conversation was overheard, "Caver Keith, caver, a man barely alive. Gentlemen and ladies, we can re-build him, we have the technology, we have the capability to make the world's first bionic caver. Caver Keith will be that caver, better than he was before, better, stronger, faster."

After 6 months of convalescence Keith doesn’t feel that he is ready to go caving again, but his mates have a different idea and with mates like these .....

What cunning plan do they have to get him back underground?     Does it succeed?    What could possibly go wrong?     Or was it all a dream after all?

New pot found this summer in weardale, conservative estimate of about 20 meters deep at the moment but links to another large aven at the bottom and appears to have some horizontal development.

Can some explain how to post videos and make them appear as an image rather than just a link.

If you remove the "s" from the https:// then it should embed automatically, e.g. with Wormy's video above, using

Code: [Select]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxG2IXjFLxo
results in:

! No longer available (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxG2IXjFLxo#)

It has not been possible to embed videos in this thread for several years as any attempt to do so using the 's' removal technique results in a system generated message saying that the embedding has been disabled due to a limit having been reached. It is possible to embed videos in most other forums.
In order to play embedded videos the Adobe Flash player needs to be installed and an increasing number of people are rejecting Flash due to its vulnerability to malware. For more information read http://www.computerweekly.com/opinion/Why-HTML5-must-replace-Flash, (http://www.computerweekly.com/opinion/Why-HTML5-must-replace-Flash,) however this forum software does not currently support HTML 5.

You sound much more knowledgeable than I am on this subject, but the video embeds in my post above on my browser...is that not the case for everyone?

I've had the embedding limit reached message for some time now. I had assumed it applied to every forum user but apparently it doesn't. It looks like it's over to the tech team now.
