After more than 6 months of effort getting the place up to scratch Bernie's has finally opened its doors. Starting to let you know now we've had a couple of days to get the operation ironed out and working smoothly.

Its been a long road getting here redecorating the place, refitting the kitchen(which is still ongoing), deciding what we are going to serve, getting the staff together and sorting all the admin that come with running a business. But the effort has not been wasted as we've made a cozy cafe that can serve you some good food and hot drink down you. We've also got ice cream and home made cakes! Reduced Menu for now as the cookers are still to be completed within 2 to 3 weeks. Then I can start serving full breakfasts and chips.

I've decorated the place with loads of caving photos, surveys, trinkets and art. Theres a stock of adventure books (some caving, more to come). I'm still builing the collection so if you have anything lying about collecting dust that you would think would be interesting for display let me know and we can work something out.

Were open 6 days a week, closed on Tuesdays. Kitchen closes at 3PM and drinks and cake service till 5PM.

The team and I are looking forward to seeing you and hearing about all you're caving adventures.

Good day and good caving!!

Kristian and all the Bernie's staff

Is that a Caving Supplies rack in the display cabinet? Looks like it's in better condition than mine - fancy a swap??

We called in the other day for a coffee - the place looks fantastic, and blueberry and lemon is now officially my favourite cake! Thanks Kristian and co.

Are the signs on the toilets still the same - cavers sneaking a pee behind a lamppost if I remember correctly?
It was actually my mum who drew those!

I've taken them down though as they were a bit confusing. I remember as a child going into the women's more than the men's as I thought one stall was for stand up only and the other was for sitting. Which in a sense was half correct.

I'm a hoarder of old gear. Shiny gear comes from next door 😂.

I need to update the rope in that case but I'm currently having difficulty opening the door.

Called in at Bernies this morning.
I asked the lady at the counter for a breakfast.
She said; "We dont do breakfast !"
I looked at her, shrugged and went next door.
Inglesport Cafe DO do breakfast.
Strange.

To be fair to them, the original post does say: "Reduced Menu for now as the cookers are still to be completed within 2 to 3 weeks. Then I can start serving full breakfasts and chips", but I suppose the lady at the counter could have mentioned that, if its still the case.

As an aside, I've heard from my folks that the coffee is excellent, but I've yet to pay a visit myself :)

Fantastic, not been up North for a while but will pop in when I venture upwards. Hope the caving world and beyond supports your efforts. 🤞
