I think that cave has even greater protection than normal; isn't it designated as an "ancient monument"?
If so, big trouble for anyone who disturbs the sediment without the proper permissions.

I think the designation is 'scheduled monument'.
 
I recall chatting to an archaeology team there (from Bradford Uni IIRC) probably about 15 years ago. They had some squares set out and were excavating on the right side looking in. I don't think they were very happy about the climbing activity, worried about the increase of footfall on the ground outside the entrance.
