In the Crown Hotel Middlesmoor the Black Sheep Diggers are going to provide an evening presentation to locals and other cavers.

We will be highlighting with slides and explanations the explorations we have been doing over the years and that of cave divers plus research of the fascinating world of nearby lead mines.

Bernie's under new ownership!

Well, the tepid dish water Inglesport serve has so little coffee in it that none of above apply. Even dunking biscuits would be a sad affair.

I've had similar experiences next door unfortunately. There's one particular employee that makes a smashing flat white but when they're not in I always opt for tea.
Sounds like Bernie's is going to have better veggie/vegan options too, so that's a big plus. I hope they have comfier seats as well! The ones in Inglesport hurt my bum after a few hours. Maybe I should eat more chips to get more portable padding.
I wrote most of my undergrad dissertation in Bernie's and was very sad when they closed, I could never find a cafe up to the same standard in Ingleton. Really excited to be able to spend rainy days next to that stove again.
If my ageing memory serves me well, Bernie's under Steve's tenure ended in 2016, and it was taken over by a non-caving couple for a couple of years. It then changed hands a couple more times, before closing down until Kristian took it on. That would mean you were either writing your undergraduate dissertation when you were younger than 15 years old, or it wasn't the 'real' Bernie's you were sampling. The 'real' Bernie's had FAR less comfortable seating than Inglesport do -the slatted bench seats made your backside look like it had been barbequed, and the old school chairs weren't much better!

Hopefully Bernie's will see a return to some of it's former glory. I remember many pre and post caving trip brews in there, back in the 80's and 90's, whilst drooling over shiny caving kit.

P.S Doesn't Inglesport pay your partner's wages, lol

I went to the real Bernies twice, once to discover how basic and spartan it was and the second time just to check I hadn't dreamt it. Kinda like a Northern greasy spoon contender/equivalent of the Centre of the Universe, and equally misanthropic*; I recall making a comparison with the Slaughtered Lamb in my TripAdvisor review. Thereafter Inglesport for the vibe and all that went with it. Order of magnitude improvement. [* the clientele, not the staff; at both sites].
