On the subject of inconveniently placed rocks...

I'm reminded of a post made by a friend, where they installed Petzl Pulses (removable bolts) and then rigged a haul systems to move the stubborn rocks. I'm this case, up vertically. But the same could be done horizontally too...
We're straying a way off topic here (and I'm not going to try splitting out a new topic from my phone), but I generally find that a ratchet strap around a rock is a quicker way to secure it for hauling than drilling in a bolt.

Jeeeee-sus! That video gives me nightmares and is the reason why I run a capping workshop before (and on) exped.
Please, anyone who reads this and has pesky rocks in digs which need removing, reach out to your local club where there should be at least someone who has managed to keep all fingers for a while (though toes are arguably at a higher risk).

Alternatively Badland or myself (amongst many more I'm sure), I cannot claim to go through hundreds in a day but go through a fair few.
Capping, like many activities, is inherently dangerous. There is equipment and methods you can use to minimise that risk to yourself and those around you. It's well worth doing so.
In my opinion plug and feathers are only suitable for those with a vast reserve of patience, space, and battery power.

Here is an idea why safety specs are an absolute necessity, I've lugged all my kit out of a pretty long cave before, realising I'd forgotten the safety specs on reaching the site. I'd 100% do so again.
Hopefully, i may join you sometime or Badlad one day, and learn about how to do it while underground safely, I'm happy for the criticism, it's always better to make mistakes above ground rather than underground, to be fair at the time of the video I should have thought about many of these things first, but we learn from good advice and guidance I have sent a request to join the EUG, also after someone kindly recommended it.

Thanks for sharing the link to why wear safety goggles. I do a lot of strimming and have once or twice not worn mine - never, ever again 🤓

Sorry Pete - back on topic. I looked into getting some new UKC mugs today to replace those that faded - watch this space, well watch a new thread about mugs ☕ :)

Maybe something under digging techniques in the appropiate section.

I sympathise, Pete . . . sometimes I think I spend far more time sorting, packing, cleaning caving kit than I do caving!

Today I abseiled from a local bridge 20 times while practicing my SRT to regain my confidence on rope. 💯

I realised since the pandemic I'm a bit out of shape (Out of breath) going back up the rope, need to train more and get back into shape, :ROFLMAO:

looks like I'm doing walk in's and walk out's for a few months while I get back into the pace of things. 🚶‍♀️

(You just don't realise how fast you get out of shape when your not practicing) - has anyone else had this issue when getting back into it since the pandemic?

It'd be nice to hear others experience

Tweaked and improved the CNCC's route description to Black Shiver Pot, after an absolutely AWESOME trip down there on Saturday. One of my favourite potholes in northern England (on the rare weekends when the weather allows), and the most buzzing I've been after a trip in ages!

Introduced 3 Vietnamese cavers, Dai, Hieu and Dung, who are currently visiting the UK (and doing lots of caving in the Dales) to my horse, Boris. None of them had ever ridden before - they have now 😁

Met with the Oxalis Team from Vietnam at SpanSet for a factory tour, equipment testing and more. Sat in a session with Fred from DMM and we all learnt a lot about karabiners 😁

Amazing how strong an old bit of caving rope turned out to be..

Fred from DMM - all you ever need to know about karabiners, lovely chap.
