Are you sure? CE marked maillons (in this link) are only rated for longitudinal load, while PPE certified maillons (this link) are 55kN on the long axis but only 10kN on cross loading.

Something I didn't know until I looked up those figures is that PPE maillons are a minimum of 8mm diameter.
You're not going to break the gate on a maillon no matter which way you twist it, whereas it is possible on a krab (it's also pretty difficult to load a narrow maillon sideways)

My previous comment on this (there's a PDF linked from it)

Celebrated exactly half my life as a caver, by struggling to keep up with the kids in Eglwys Faen.

A quick excel calculation a few weeks ago, showed that I was approaching this momentous milestone, so it would have been rude not to head underground.
[[Date of first caving trip*]-[DOB]]+[Date of first caving trip] = 12/10/2024

*I've excluded an instructor-led trip as a teenager, and assumed my first trip to be my first trip with my first caving club.

Put my cavings skills to use with a hands & knees crawl, along the edge of a considerable cliff face. Turns out it quickly dead-ended, but was a fine way to waste a few minutes outdoors. :)

I too am suffering - from a seized lower back, after a trip on Saturday, so just waiting now. To be fair, it had started hurting on Friday night, so definitely work caused it rather than caving, but I'm not doing either until this relaxes! :(
