Flogging on with the old TG 4 and to show all photography is not about technical perfection.

There are better ways to spend the day.

A 'new' old lead mine - small, but perfectly-formed. One for the geologists more than the explorers really, but a nice find, nevertheless.

Cracking photos , picture 3 I am trying to figure it out looks like a wooden spike for a tie down point , but beside it appears to be mattress springs ? I am assuming it’s a chain in terrible condition but I wonder if their is more to this photo as it doesn’t appear a normal spike either really ?

Looks more like the end of a jackroll to me? Presumably the "loop" is for inserting a removable turning handle?
Plateaus are the highest form of flattery.

It's the end of a windlass, as far as I can tell. The weird 'M' (or 'W') shaped brackets we've found before - there were some in Son Of Longcliffe (taken for storage by the NT), and there are some in a mine on Hassop Common, but I'd like them to stay there! One was definitely once attached to the drum, but the rotting had made it all fall apart. The only correlation I can find is from De Re Metallica, as there are several similar devices on rag-and-chain pumps as catches for each bucket or washer. However, none of these sites seemed to have any need for pumps, as they're all either close to surface or very well-drained, in the case of the Hassop Common mine. If anyone has any more info I'd be pleased to know more.

We had to move the stuff as it was going to get trashed as we climbed above it into that hole in photo 2 - the red sand fell on it as we climbed up. To avoid clogging up this thread I'll start another in the mining section, as these objects have been bugging me for ages.

If the creosote or random collapses don't get you, the amount of mixed stone dust in the air is more than enough to turn you into Der Golem. The air throughput from shaft to opencut is improved, but that only means more dust. I wouldn't recommend visits any more, that's for sure.

Spent many many hours trying to perfect the backlit stuff    and a VERY patient wife ,once done it looks quite nice. Adds a new dimension to cave and mine dive shots I think ?
