Wide angle supplementary lens for Olympus TG1
« on: December 12, 2019, 07:47:23 pm »
Has anyone used the FCON-T01 wide angle supplementary lens on an Olympus TG1? (By this I mean directly, not with the camera in a housing.)

If so, are you happy with the results?

Does it require an adaptor to connect to the camera (CLA-T01?)?

I'd be especially grateful for any remarks from anyone who's used it underwater but any thoughts on surface use would still be of value.

How does the flash work, with the lens in the way, incidentally?

Thanks.

Won't the flash produce backscatter in cave/underwater environments anyway? Just a thought.

Yep - which is why I use very bright lamps for U/W photography, so the flash doesn't fire. I know it can be switched off but the command is cunningly concealed in a sub menu, which is very fiddly with cold, sausage-fingered neoprene gloves on - often there just isn't time to do that before the vis is lost. A problem with supplementary lenses is that they reduce the amount of light energy reaching the lens - so more likely to have the camera flashing when not wanted.

Someone must have tried these lenses - help!

Did you get any other responses to this question from other sources? Was thinking about getting the teleconverter for the TG2.

Hello Stuart - no, I got no response. I did find this on the internet though, which is quite useful:

In the end I decided to go ahead and order one - so I may be able to answer my own questions on here, eventually!

Here's one of the places they grow:
